Monkeys will never type Shakespeare, study finds
  • Don't tell me, tell the researchers.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, the "☝️🤓" was talking about the study, not what you were saying. Sorry for the confusion 🙇

Monkeys will never type Shakespeare, study finds
  • However, a new peer-reviewed study led by Sydney-based researchers Stephen Woodcock and Jay Falletta has found that the time it would take for a typing monkey to replicate Shakespeare's plays, sonnets and poems would be longer than the lifespan of our universe. Which means that while mathematically true, the theorem is "misleading", they say.

    Basically: ☝️🤓

  • I have a project stopped a couple of months ago and I want to resume it.

I started for Mobiles, but after a little more research I realized that it was more complicated than I thought, and I don't know if it can have the impact I would like it to have (which is not much either).

So I don't know if I should concentrate more on PC development until I have a little more experience and then make the leap to mobile, or should it be the other way around? start with mobile and then to PC?

What would be the most profitable path in terms of learning and, if possible, generate a modest income?

    Stop whining. Do it yourself.
  • Making a community also implies moderating it, doesn't it? I would understand that there are people who just want to see and post things they like and not have to be aware of banning users or deleting unwanted posts.

I say that because I am part of those people, moderating content is hard.

  • I took the month of Halloween as an excuse to replay all of Silent Hill and it has been a fantastic experience, very nostalgic. I'm already playing the 4th game and when I finish it I'm going to jump into playing short horror games on Itch.io.

  • I ask because sometimes I feel very silly when writing clumsily in English and even sillier when I have to look up how to spell a particular word.

I want to know if I'm the only idiot that it happens to or if on the contrary it's something generalized.

  • I know all that, it's what causes me the most frustration. In the end the "Greatest Achievement of Mankind" is not much different than a guy jumping to touch the ceiling because they told him "bet you can't reach", and after that, unless they find oil or some shit like that on the moon, they're never coming back.... At least the Americans, since the Chinese do plan to establish "something" there, at least to show they can.

  • Something, anything in the freaking moon.

Why haven't we been back there in, like, 50 years? That mission was done with computers that were less powerful than my stupid phone.

Anything, a telescope, a transmitter of I-don't-know-what shit, a lunar farm, a Coca-Cola or Disney advertising, ANYTHING!

    Fediverse enshittification
  • In my opinion, enshittification occurs when, among other things, the user experience is "ruined" in order to generate profits by offering "improvements" that are nothing more than going back to previous states of the platform, only now paying or paying more.

While it could happen that some parts of the Fediverse could become Shitty, it seems impossible to me that it would happen in the whole fediverse. There's always the option of blocking problematic instances and such. And anyway, users who enter the fediverse do so mostly fleeing from enshittification, so, I think, we are less willing to put up with that kind of bullshit and will leave sooner rather than later, maybe creating something new (and better, if possible).

Question: Is there an equivalent to Google Drive in Windows for KDE?
  • If what you need is s way to synchronize a folder to your Google Drive, you can use Celeste. Is a cloud synchronization client that works pretty well, although is not perfect, but you can give a try and judge for yourself.

Now, if you want to replace Gdrive with another cloud service , Nextcloud is a grate alternative

  • Well, Mozilla seems to be making some pretty questionable decisions, So I'm considering switching browsers for the third (Is it the third?) time. The thing is, I really like the way Firefox works, so I've been trying out the more famous Forks like Waterfox and Librewolf, although I'm going for Floorp. However, I'm wondering: is using a fork enough? I mean, they are Forks maintained by other people, but is there a chance that whatever Mozilla does to Firefox could affect those Forks? Should I jump to a totally different browser like Vivaldi?

I've had a game in development stalled for a month because I'm also writing a story, but the story is also half stalled because I'm replaying a game, and I'm already getting frustrated.

It's something that is starting to bothering me, it seems like I can't do something if I'm not completely immersed in it: If I want to watch movies or a series, I must do a marathon; if I want to play a game, I must pass it in less than a week; if I want to make a game, I must get into a Crunch because "reasons"; if I want to write, I must work on making it the best story I've ever written so far.

Is this normal? should I not worry so much? or how can I better manage the things I want and need to do?

While I was documenting myself to create a romantic work between two women, I made a little detour and read a Manga (Love Hurts, by Kiriko Nananan) that made me wonder if the idea I initially had for my story is too idealistic to the point of bordering on childish. It's just that the manga portrays interpersonal relationships in such a raw way (compared to what I've been consuming until then), that perhaps the impact it gave me was even greater than I expected.

I understand that there are those who prefer an escapist work, experiencing more of a dream than a one-on-one copy of real life. I also know that there are those who don't see much value in escapism and prefer art to function as a mirror of reality. I personally found myself somewhere in between.

What I would like to know is which side I should lean more towards in order to do the best work possible.

I'm writing a story and I'm worried that I might inadvertently turn one of my main characters into a Mary Sue. I'd like to know if it's enough to give her the odd flaw or imperfection or if I should be more drastic and make her screw up big time.

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don't understand how these executives play Capitalism.

My mother's laptop has been running as fast as a turtle on a snail going uphill for a long time now. Everything has been done to it, including formatting it and installing another, less cumbersome OS, but nothing improves. I have an HHD available, I have done some tests and it does work.

Would changing the hard drive do any good?
