The stupidity of YT ads these days
  • The solution for YouTube is right in your comment: it used to be the case that only tech savvy people would install AdBlock.
With more ads though, the incentive to install an ad blocker is suddenly there for more, even not so tech savvy people.
YouTube‘s reaction is already visible as they are now trying to block ad blockers: Try to make it more difficult to get an ad blocker at all, so not as tech savvy people won’t get one and continue to watch ads as they used to.

My mom wants "free" full movies on Youtube
  • That would also be my go-to solution, except she wants hundreds of movies (in which case Plex also makes sense, but more for her than for OP).

What is your preferred fitness tracker/smartwatch?
  • I have been using a PineTime for quite a while now which is an absolute no-brainer for 27$.
Even if it’s marketed for tech/foss enthusiasts it’s really easy to use, would recommend if you just want simple step tracking and heart rate monitoring.

    climate denial rule
  • I don’t really like the conspiracy theory of the moon landing being fake next to mass surveillance after 9/11 - which really happened as shown by Snowden.

To deny things like e.g. the mass surveillance after 9/11 does not make us more believable and doesn’t make it more likely to convince climate change deniers.

  • Yeah we totally would, and if the original murderer was found to not be innocent we would have to kill the person who killed the person who killed the murderer…

Norway Bans Meta From Showing Users Personalized Ads
  • You can’t really effectively do that, as every social media platform has to collect user data per definition.
Forbidding selling would be a bit difficult to define, but at least worth the try.

Top Extensions to Make YouTube Bearable
  • Unfortunately that is very unlikely, as YouTube shorts are served from the same servers as all other content on YouTube, so PiHole can’t tell the difference.

But even for iOS there is uYou+ which can block shorts and I’m sure there will be a similar piece of software for Android.

  • This will get funny once they try to ship it to Germany, because you’re legally allowed to do pretty much everything with your device - as long as it’s legally yours.

    *Permanently Deleted*
  • I don’t think that not giving Google a list of all domains you’re visiting is just "little bit", it sounds like a whole lot :)
