Why don’t we use radiators as heat sinks in the summer and pump cold water through them?
  • The question is what do you do with the waste warm water.

There are A/C systems that use groundwater to cool the coils and then discharge into a pond. But obviously that only works in a place where you have ample free water and a place to dispose of it.

Trump’s Truth Social may be days away from liquidation
  • Whoa, hang on guys. This doesn't mean Truth Social is over, it just means the SPAC deal that was going to take it public might fall through.

If this fails, then they'll need some venture capital to keep running, and if that fails, then it'll be time to shut down.

The Constitution Prohibits Trump From Ever Being President Again
  • Except that it's already been used to keep Jan 6ers off the ballot.

It's got teeth. How much? I dunno. But Trump doesn't necessarily need to be disqualified for the party to step in and nominate someone else.

I think a lot of Republicans would welcome the excuse.

YouGov: UK EU membership referendum poll Rejoin 63% Stay Out 37% 8-9 August
  • I can't imagine the EU is going to accept a return without some concessions.

I'd be curious to see what those numbers look like if you throw in abolishing the pound and integration of the UK into Schengen.

Video of a flash mob of thieves ransacking a Nordstrom department store in southern California
  • And that still doesn't create food deserts. You don't understand what a food desert is.

Food deserts are created when Walmart sets up shop and undercuts a dozen smaller groceries sending them out of business, meaning that anyone who wants groceries now needs a car to get across the giant government mandated parking lot.

Theft has nothing to do with it and your attempts to link the two are pathetic.

'Renters Are Struggling': Economists Back Tenant-Led Push for Federal Rent Control
  • There's a supply shortage.

You can't sprawl your way out of this problem, despite Texas' best efforts. All you do there is create traffic.

The answer is simple. Legalize housing. More triplexes, more quadplexes, more ADUs, 5 over 1s, more of everything. Developers want to fill this demand. They can't. They're hamstrung by city ordnances and state laws that often only allow apartments or single family housing. Not everyone wants or needs a separate house. Make rent boring again and the corporations will lose interest.

Here are the 70 House Republicans who voted to cut off all US military aid to Ukraine
  • The same reason General Popov was dismissed then attacked by state media. The same reason Prigozhin encountered minor resistance on his march to Moscow.

Morale is low, stockpiles are depleted and industry is decimated, partially by sanctions and partially by mobilization.

Russia is using WWII tactics with cold war era equipment. Thousands of artillery pieces don't mean a whole lot if you can't put counter-battery fire on a HIMARS. Thousands of mobiks aren't going to be effective if they don't have modern training and equipment. Russia wasted hundreds of guided missiles on residential targets with no strategic value in the middle of a war.

The war is already lost. The only question now is how many more Russians have to die on Ukrainian soil before Putin starts to care.

Is Lemmy THE reddit alternative for you? Are you thinking about moving somewhere else?
  • I want to like kbin, but mobile UI is just weird. If I tap on a picture, I want to see the picture, not the comment thread.

Gerboa gets me closest to the RIF experience, so that's where I'm at for now.
