This information is shockingly hard to find, and redditors are as confidently, vigorously clueless and unhelpful as always.
A lot of VR mods for flatscreen games are pretty lazily thrown together, so it's on the user to configure everything correctly. There has to be a general recommended number for first person games on the Quest 3's display, right?
So the "turn off disks after" setting was already set, and USB selective suspend already disabled, BUT those are apparently overridden for USB connected drives if the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" box is checked for that USB hub in Windows Device Manager (Power Management tab).
All of those had defaulted to 'on' since I upgraded my mobo, so I think I've got it now.
I have a full sized HDD in a USB 3 dock, and my power settings inactive timer is set to 300 minutes. This doesn't appear to be applying to the docked HDD, as it spins down in about 5 minutes or less. It takes forever to spin back up when I access it, so how can I change this?
I'm trying to use Virtual Desktop with a Quest 3 and want to skip Steam VR wherever humanly possible. Problem is, this isn't possible most of the time because I can't install the Oculus app, which is supposedly required to use the xr runtime and avoid going through Steam.
The oculusSetup.exe installer crashers before showing any UI on my system (Win10 Home x64), making installation impossible. This occurred both before and after upgrading my motherboard, Intel CPU, and ram kit. I've gone through a laundry list of advanced troubleshooting over the past month or so, and I won't get into that here.
Instead, I'm really hoping there is a way to run PCVR games/apps through VD with openxr runtimes that DON'T rely on running SteamVR (for performance/latency reasons), WITHOUT needing to install the actual Oculus app on my PC.
I found a solution myself, if anyone else is wondering.
There's an easier way to get the same effect: Shift-Click your cell(s) and drag where you want it/them, then hold Alt before releasing to drop it in place and auto re-order the column.
Oh no, we're on it for the same reasons. I honestly would be willing to shill the doubled price point of a PCVR headset, but ALL of them (excluding the massively overpriced) have shit-tier displays compared to the Quest 3, which is why I can't quite justify it yet. Of course, if Meta wasn't selling at a loss it wouldn't even be a question, just fuck them.
Not much else to say. At the least I want the ability to cut one cell and then CTRL+"+" it elsewhere in the column. I used to be able to reorder items in a column like this without leaving a blank cell where I cut from, but Calc doesn't do this.

Of course. It looked like shit and streamed like hot garbo even on normal computers and smart TVs, I can only imagine how fucking miserable VR Netflix was. And it's Netflix, no one should be paying for that slop any more anyway. lol, as if VR would ever maintain any kind of meaningful suite of services.
I genuinely hate what VR has become. They're signing this tech's death warranty and they should know that. After over a decade we've just about plateaued in terms of developing objectively better headsets, and fucked any chance of having a PCVR/peripheral headset that actually looks good, has good tracking, and works universally with whatever the fuck you want too hook up to it without being $1500 or more.
Not to mention locomotion hasn't made any real progress and we've actually scrapped a lot of promising looking haptics tech that could have been a standard feature of VR controllers. We've also lost any hope of 3rd party controller support.
We're cooked, and I don't see this going anywhere good. Keep what you have for novelty's sake and future 'collector's' value, but don't bother looking forward to a future of VR or AR beyond gimmicky shit like google glasses and whatever the fuck Cuckerberg is doing.
It's not a lack of software that killed it, it's the lack of ability to use any meaningful library of software due to proprietary restraints, as always. I don't know when everyone made the switch from VR as a peripheral to strictly proprietary, "stand-alone" (and die alone) headsets, but it's literally killing VR as a whole.
Don't get me wrong, the current strict PCVR companies aren't any better. They see what's happening and are doubling down on the massive cost hike despite looking shittier and technically having less features than SA headsets. That being said, they work INFINITELY smoother with PC apps and game and movies, in addition to higher quality tracking systems and third-party hardware support. This alone should put them ahead by a long-shot, but being an unaffordable hobby niche doesn't help when large corpos can churn out headsets full of "stand-alone" bloat at a loss just to devour the majority of the VR market and lock people into hopeless, proprietary hellscapes.
Completely disagree with you here, and you really didn't explain any of it. In what way does the apple face-book-mac whatever the fuck do things "way nicer" than any other headset? I get that the resolution is objectively higher than the mid-to-low end sets, but a complete lack of actual features negates that. Does the UI just have super silky animations? Transparent icons? A really sexy audio cue when you boot it up? All of this is fluff to make people feel like they made a good purchase decision.

UPDATE I'm seeing a lot of references to KERNELBASE.dll, as well as some kind of image drawing/color issue that I don't understand. If anyone has any ideas about those, I'd appreciate it
UPDATE 2 Found a log from the Oculus app its self in my appdata. Main take away so far is this line:
"System.OverflowException: The image data generated an overflow during processing. ---> System.ArithmeticException: Overflow or underflow in the arithmetic operation".
I remember looking up an exception code earlier and something came up about trying to divide by zero. Anyone have a clue here? It almost sounds to me like the Meta people just can't fucking code to save their lives (or careers, which I'm not to confident in right now).
