'Shogun' and 'Hacks' win top series Emmy Awards.
  • I know it was discussed last year, but classifying The Bear as a comedy is a bit unfair. While the show certainly has its comedic moments, that shit is a stressful drama 90% of the time. I accept that awards are always bonkers, and comparing art and performances is not ever "fair." It just seems insincere to put yourself in the same category as a show like What we do in the Shadows or Abbott Elementary when it seems to clearly belong in competition with shows like Shogun or Mr and Mrs Smith.

I don't think you can compare the acting of Jeremy Allen White in a serious show about the life of a chef to that of Matt Berry who is pretending to be a horny vampire and occasional girls volleyball sponsor/humble neighborhood bartender from Tucson Arizonia. Jackie Daytona was robbed, and I will die on this hill.

How is Fallout a drama and not a comedy? How is this classification decided?

[Digital Foundry] Inside Hunt: Showdown 1896 - The CryEngine Evolves - Crytek Developer Interview
  • Oh I still have fun playing it when I can! But it's more of a desperate attempt at survival and less a strategic hunt for the bounty and skilled firefight with enemies. I wish this existed back when I was in college and had more free time to play and friends available to co-op with. I'm so anxious about letting down teammates I'm matched with online.

The Brutalist (TIFF) review: A 3.5 hour 70mm masterpiece?
  • I'm excited to see Adrien Brody back in a big role, I feel like I have only seen him as secondary characters in Wes Anderson movies for the last few years.

Bunker used by company thugs to fire upon agitated workers, Mine Wars, West Virginia, USA, ~1912?
  • I remember seeing the PBS documentary about the mine wars a few years ago. It is crazy the amount of control these companies had, and the lengths miners had to go through to break free from the system.

‘Villain’ YouTuber Nikocado Avocado Shocks Fans With 250LB Weight Loss Reveal
  • Can someone fill me in because I don't want to watch the video. I remember a few years ago, people were really concerned for his mental and physical health because of his binge eating and deteriorating relationships. Did he lose the weight and also get excess skin removal surgery? Cause it looks that way from the photo. How long ago was he morbidly obese?

10 Best Horror TV Shows Of All Time
  • I'm happy to see Mike Flanigan's Hill House make the list. I absolutely loved that season of television, but not many people I know have seen it. His other shows have been great, too. Highly recommend them to anyone who wants something that starts off traditionally spooky and then transforms into something emotionally resonant. It's definitely a higher caliber of show than American Horror Story.

‘The Rings Of Power’ Season 2, Episode 4 Review: ‘Eldest’ Is Another Atrocious Disaster
  • This review makes a lot of great points about parts of the series that I was having trouble putting into words. Especially the bit about the scope being so grand and beautiful and then zooming too far in so that the cities or towns feel like a set.

On social media, I keep seeing the Rings of Power promotions with 'Deep Dives in Lore' or something like that. Why have these deep dives if the lore doesn't add up? Tom Bombadil doesn't deserve this.

Megalopolis (2024, Dir. Francis Ford Coppola)
  • From the trailer, I get the feeling that the movie is going to be a bit egotistical and preachy? Maybe that isn't the right word. It just feels like the director is shouting at the viewer through the trailer about the state of the chaos in the world today. Obviously, his older movies were much more intimate stories focused on character growth that I found very easy to watch. This seems like a huge scope with a high concept and a risk of going off the rails.

I'm in the same boat with limited time to sit down and watch a movie. Will probably not waste my time on this and only watch it if I hear good things from people in my life that I trust to give decent recommendations.

    Loving USA Culture
  • The "Victorian House" is just the commonly accepted name for the archetectural style. I'm not an architectural expert, but the average person in the US would hear that and imagine a 3 story house with porches and elabroate decorations. The US certainly has a distinctive building and decorative style from that era that is different than any Victorian homes in the UK.

  • What an absolutely horrific change in her day to day life over the course of a few short weeks. I hope she recovers quickly, although I hear that burn recovery is brutal and that her boyfriend goes to prison forever for such a malicious act.
