The original question came up over snorting drugs through a rolled up C note but would also likely encompass shooting heroin or smoking meth/crack. But the consensus appears to be not to ask for an NSFW tag at this time. So that will be our stance unless you guys decide things are going too far and you want the tag included on posts with that sort of content.
It definitely is for those things, but in general it's meant to encompass things that would cause problems if a coworker or manager looked over your shoulder. Graphic depictions of illegal drug use is borderline which is why I wanted to ask the community how they felt about it.
Politics aren’t allowed in !memes. We do try to catch it when a political meme is posted.
I appreciate the many voices here. It seems like consensus is that the tag is not needed as a general rule. I want to be clear, also, that the NSFW tag is not censorship, but also doesn't seem necessary either. Thank you guys for chiming in!
Hey guys, it was brought up in a report that NSFW tags should be applied to posts depicting drug use. What do you guys think? I could see it either way and thought you guys might like to weigh in on it. I personally don't find it particularly offensive but my work environments have never been the type to react strongly to something like this popping up on screen (I think they might be more upset about being on Lemmy at all). Currently there is no rule, and I am fine with that, unless feedback indicates the community would rather play it safe and require the NSFW flag.
They didn't delete it, it was caught by the mods very quickly.
That story is a wild ride.
Several movies will open nationwide but none are projected to make a dent on box office charts over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
It's been a rough few weeks.
A man was arrested after following and firing shots at a car, according to an affidavit from Dallas Police.
Self deletions don't appear in the mod log. Only moderator actions. That's why it's called the mod log.
Would you like to elaborate?
It was a nail biter
I wonder why they put Hitler on the list then.
How much purge for something like this?
Maybe that was after the shooting.
Mac mini $500 and refurbs are cheaper.
Not really surprised. I bought it and it didn’t seem all that improved over the original version. It was a cash grab that failed.
Yes. As far as I have read. Also that goes double now that SCOTUS has made almost anything the president does legal.
The district in the Rio Grande Valley immediately agreed with activists who said the books were "filthy and evil."
Welcome to Texas.
There is something fun and sinister about a well done lovecraftian style story. If you don't mind that sort of thing I HIGHLY recommend "The Void" during your halloween times. It is very lovecraftian and works on a lot of levels. To me "Event Horizon" also has that feel. As long as the stories play up the creep factor over the sheer gore of it all I think there are some cool ideas here.

> ARTICLE>> https://screenrant.com/lovecraft-stories-movie-adaptations-need-modern/ > > H.P. Lovecraft was known for his fantastical novels, whose influence has bled into the cultural perception of horror, making them perfect for modern movie adaptations. Lovecraft is undoubtedly a flawed and prejudiced figure in literature, and any undertaking to adapt his stories should acknowledge the issues of racism, xenophobia, and homophobia in his work. Bringing Lovecraft into the modern era means doing his work justice, as well as exploring how they can be made more reflective of the present day.
This is the movie I probably would have seen this weekend if they hadn't shut down all of the Alamo Drafthouse theaters in my city. Was it a good time?
Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas has sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment but will continue to operate its theaters under the brand name
I really hope this is a good thing. I don't want to see theaters die, but I really hope Sony doesn't interfere with the things that make Alamo Drafthouse great... I really hope they can rectify the closure of all the DFW locations as well.
The fundamental tenet of a working democracy is voting. Everyone should have a vote and everyone should exercise their right to vote. To that end we have been seeing posts attempting to shame/mock or otherwise influence people not to vote. While this is a meme community, the idea that people shouldn’t vote goes against the fundamentals of a democracy by the people and for the people. To that end, we are adding a new rule that disallows posts that discourage or shame people from voting. This doesn’t mean that you can’t address how people vote, but even those who don’t agree with you and your political views should still vote. We all should. Everyone. Part of the reason we are in the mess we are in now is because participation in democracy is abysmal. Posts discouraging people from voting are essentially propaganda and will be removed.
PoliticalMemes is a community for having fun at the expense of our political hellscape we find ourselves in. People not voting is a big part of why.
We are taking feedback on this change, please let us know if you agree or disagree in the comments and why.
New research finds that Israel’s attacks on Gaza damaged hospitals and other medical facilities at the same rate as other buildings, potentially in violation of international law.
We saw VERY few nominations for books in December, and I know everyone is very busy with the season. We'll open nominations for January at the end of the month so be thinking about it.
INSTEAD... we are going to be reading some short stories for those that still want to have something to read together.
Let's read:
- This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
- The Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang
- The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster
If you have other suggestions we can throw them out here too. I'll create discussion for these three for now.
The time has come, friends, to nominate more reading for December! This post will collect nominations for the next few days (I’m thinking into the weekend) and then we’ll have us a vote. Please don’t hesitate to talk about why you want to share your pick and why you think it will be a good item for ...
I know this is a busy month for a lot of us. So far we only have 2 nominations for the book club and one of them is mine. It seems like December might not be a great month for the book club. If we don't get a few more nominations I am going to cancel for December and push whatever nominations we get into nominations for January.
What do you guys think? Should we cancel book club for December and pick up in January or do you guys want to move forward (which will some more nominations for a vote to make sense).
Here's the nomination post for convenience. November Nominations

Texans are facing the fallout of a $3.5 billion debt from the disastrous Winter Storm Uri, with a surcharge added to every natural gas bill to settle the debt over the next 16 years.
I whipped this up today because I am always having to look it up and figure out when I am supposed to put my turkey from the Freezer to the Fridge. I plan to pretty it up over the next few days but hopefully this will be helpful to others (me too since I am cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year). I am open to suggestions too if you have any.
Texans weighed in on property tax cuts, cost-of-living adjustments for retired public school employees, the mandatory retirement age for judges and more during the Nov. 7 election.

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer
Annihilation is our second place selection for November. We decided to choose a second book for people who want to have a little more variety and want to do more than one book in a month. I am looking forward to the discussion on this one. I saw the movie when it came out but am really interested to experience the story in book form.
