YouTube is experimenting with server-side ads
  • Dude, wrong place for this argument. Those of us who pay for things are not the ones blocking ads or really using the lemmingverse. I mean. I pay for premium and all this whining about ads means nothing to me and all these free loaders just want something for nothing, but again wrong place to say that.

Morgan Spurlock dead: Super Size Me director dies at 53
  • Except he lied that he was sober and was actually an alcoholic and drinking during the making of that film, which directly affected his health and the perception around his health in relation to McDonalds food.

  • No. Sounds fine to me. In Canada we wouldn't do it that way, but not because it's wrong or anything. Different strokes for different folks.

Do you separate the art from the artists? If no, are you strict about it or do you cherry-pick?
  • Harvey Weinstein made a lot of really great films happen that we would've probably never seen without him, while he also made a lot of nightmares come true for some women. I really hope he isn't making any money these days off of those movies.

Two-thirds of Americans say AI could do their job
  • No AI is gonna pick up a drill and some screws and put together these cabinets I'm installing today. In fact AI has zero use cases for me in construction. Absolutely nothing it can do.

    Is replacing a tub/shower combo DIY'able
  • As long as it doesn't end up like this: https://youtu.be/lfyaftYvFGg

Sounds like a can of worms. A soft spot in the floor probably means the subfloor needs to be replaced, and if the floor joist is also rotted, then you're really up a creek. I say just sell the house and move to an apartment.

Ban private jets to address climate crisis, says Thomas Piketty
  • I work in carpentry and we drive a full electric Ford transit. Open bed pickup trucks are horrible if you work in a trade, with tools and materials in the bed easily stolen or damaged by weather. Trucks are stupid if you actually do work, and most people buy one to look cool, or for those rare times twice a year when they "need" a truck. Could just rent a fucking U-Haul.
