TikTok has been pushing Chinese propaganda to millions of users in Europe: analysis
  • Oh please, buzz off with your faux-clever "all reporting is bad" cynicism. Do you really see no difference between what the NYPost publishes and other news sources? Yes it's a corporate machine but you have to be willfully ignorant to think that WaPo posting anti-union editorials is in the same boat as NYPost clickbait

TIL lemmy.ml is a pro-authoritarian CCP shill instance
  • American Internet MLs when someone defends colonization by criticizing the prior systems of the colonized people: "Let colonized people dedcide their own fate! >:( "

American Internet MLs when someone criticizes China's colonization of Tibet: "[5000 characters criticizing prior systems in Tibet]"

I just want some consistency. Why is it liberation when China does it to Tibet but colonization when America does it to Afghanistan/South America/everywhere else? Fuck em both bro

Also have you ever noticed that criticisms of Tibet's former systems always rely on the secondary source of The Timely Rain, an account written by foreign travelers in Tibet? (Or, as MLs might call someone who travels to Asia to do this today, written by "colonizers"?) Why is that perspective okay with you, enough to justify China's actions?

why can't we have federated identity ?
  • Nah, it's been enabled, it's literally just that instance that wont show anything without an account on their instance.

Unless you mean the setting for my *.world account can be on everywhere else but OFF on the *nsfw instance alone??

why can't we have federated identity ?
  • No some communities need a new login. lemmy NSFW has no content without it. th there's the issue of having a slow instance like world vs another instance

  • So... how's Lemmy doing? Any plans to upgrade soon? It's pretty slow and really hit or miss with loading. About 40% of the things either don't open or fail to post.

And I'm fine with that! For now. Growing pains and whatnot. But it'd be cool to see some plans on how Lemmy is prepared to handle this growth. It already lacks a number of smaller communities I miss, so if there's to be any reason to use it, it's gotta at least function.

Pornhub cuts off more US users in ongoing protest over age-verification laws
  • Yikes. Asking all visitors to enter ID? They just don't want anyone on those sites. You could just as well use a device-based age verification system and cut out a major point of access. Looking like Arkansas and Mississippi are following the South Korean model.

Do you feel that there's a lack of discussion on Lemmy about stuff besides the current Reddit and Twitter controversies?
  • Nope, I'm seeing discussions unrelated to Reddit every time I'm on here. And there's often more comments than I care to read! The main hurdle for me is the long load times and the inconsistency of the buttons.

    But remember!

There's never going to be a perfect alternative. No Reddit alternative is going to function the same as a massive 18 year old site from Day 1. It takes some time, some stress tests, some development, and some dedication. Just remember the shit they pulled to bring us here.
