The whole thing with federating is irrelevant to most users.
I tell them it's a social media built in a way that makes it impossible for any company to take over it in order to make profit. And then I show them to some instance I've hand-picked for them, without really telling them there are other instances as well. It's not something they should worry about at that point. I can explain it later on, anyway.
How about people driving those trucks that directly dump mixed waste into the ocean? That's a very common thing to do in South-East Asia. Plus, there are a zillion villages everywhere around there that dump all of their mixed waste into creeks going through them – to be brought "away". Into the oceans.
That's where almost half of all microplastic comes from. Then there's the other approximately half that comes from cars' tyres. And then a part of a percent that comes from drinking straws and such. Hooray.
Religion != Ethnicity is only partially true in this case, though:
The Jewish religion puts quite an effort to viewing all Jews as a singular nation and ethnicity.
But the main sentiment still holds: It is not acceptable to hate Jews in general for the state of Israel committing a genocide.
I believe it can. I've seen enough geolocation posts where people have managed to pinpoint something surprisingly accurately based on similar data. The direction where the flame shoots directly upwards shows a lot.
But yeah, since the gepard is easy to move around, probably no real harm done. Just want to remind people to care about OPSEC :)
