  • My local power company is a price gouger… but my state has mandated that we can select our source provider with zero penalties for switching… even between other sources.

It’s not a ton… since the ‘delivery’ fees are straight up highway robbery and not under the control of the outside provider… but it’s still something.

Currently doing research on solar and how much I need to save to afford the up front costs.

  • I always headcanoned that Rom was very quickly fired after DS9… but I have to admit this episode did an excellent job conveying that with Leeta at his side, he’s got quite good job security. … and wasn’t that the Sense-Ores admiral?

I liked catching up with Marinier’s Ferengi friend from back in S1. Kinda wish they did a little bit more with that plot.

I tend to feel awkward when I see characters acting awkward… to that extent I had a little trouble getting through Tendi and Rutherford’s story. I like them more when they get to be big nerds—which we admittedly had quite a bit of this episode.

Beyond that… I find it interesting that the Parlament class now has a CGI model. Lower Decks traditionally saves the CGI budget for ships that get into combat or major fan service. The Parlament vessel doesn’t really qualify for either in this episode. I wonder if it’s going to be a casualty of the mystery ship later in the season.

Also, did I hear right that the Ferengi Lower Decker was in communication with the mysterious vessel?

  • According to sources familiar with the matter, production of the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV and 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV is now scheduled to end on December 20th, 2023. Of course, it bears mentioning that this date may change for any number of different reasons, including parts supply issues or the ongoing UAW worker strike.

  • I miss when web searches gave us personal websites of people passionate about a topic.

  • For me, with biking, I don’t just need a destination, but an objective.

So I’ll bike to get blood work done, then bike home. That’s a good 20 miles with a break in the middle for something productive.

Sometimes it’s the grocery store, or the post office, or the pharmacy. I start associating local destinations with exercise… as opposed to exercise for the sake of it.

  • Huh… devil you know vs the devil you don’t.

Hypothetically—say McCarthy’s butt is saved—What’s preventing the Republicans from immediately voting to dismiss him again?

  • I like the bit of world building that Caitians and Betazoids have a shared history. Both are (traditionally) neglected species, and we rarely get this sort of world building that doesn’t directly involve Starfleet.

Anyway, the fact that T’Ana had an uncontrollable and ingrained instinct to hunt them suggests that Caitians and Betazoids were originally from the same planet, which further suggests one or the other left for another planet.

I wonder if their (current) home worlds are in the same system.

  • The UN's 2021 global emissions gap report showed that governments' energy plans would lead to about 57% more oil, and 71% more gas in 2030 than is consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5C.

2030 is the current deadline for US automakers to dedicate no less than 50% of their production to be EVs. I’m certain there’s a lot of fine print under that… but still, I’m curious how that impacts those 51% and 71% ratios compared to current production. Like, how much headway are we expecting to make (or lose?) by 2030?

It’s plainly obvious more needs to be done… I want to know how much headway we’re making.

  • I was more referring to simpler things… like Safari Extensions or Utilities… or even filtering/searching by the app description instead of the over stuffed title.

  • Doesn’t matter how powerful the search is if I STILL can’t filter anything.

  • So I looked up the specs for the first 5K-ish India car I found.

    https://www.cardekho.com/maruti/alto-k10/specs

As far as I can tell, it has every feature you’re saying is responsible for western automakers charging around 6 times the cost of this car… sans heated seats and purported safety standards.

Chevy charges an additional $1K for the package that adds heated seats to their Bolt EV.

So, am I to take you at face value that you’re inferring that safety concerns and standards are responsible for the remainder of the price gouging?

  • No.

If the Jaguar were to harm a human, it would be put down.

  • Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. 🙂

  • A fair point.

Personally, I use ‘savings’ as a catch-all for any form of money you have no intention of spending frivolously. Be that in savings, stocks, or other forms of investment.

I’ve got a relative who saw anything beyond the 6 month mark as spending money. I don’t know what form his investments manifested in, but it clearly didn’t work as he’s in financial do-do, and it’s an unpleasant topic amongst the family.

  • I’m not sure I follow your reasoning.

I mean, 1% interest is admittedly criminal, but it’s still better than the 0% in checking. And a month’s wages feels like a lot—to me—to leave entirely idle.

Everything else though sounds like you’re well and ahead of the game though! Kudos for balancing your portfolio. 👍

  • Personally, as a rule of thumb, I don’t think you can have enough in savings.

Our society is built upon going into debt… and I’d rather pay up front for things like a replacement vehicle or heater/pump or what have you, which means having enough to survive on—as you are inferring—and enough to survive Murphy making an unannounced and unwelcome visit.

  • Just watched the video… it seems like it's asking for Prodigy without acknowledging its existence. 😕

  • Yeah… he lost the general election, but only by a hair, and a LOT of work went into grabbing last minute votes.

The most dangerous thing you can do is be complacent.

We need to vote and we need to get others to vote.

  • In retrospect, we haven’t had much in terms of badmirals in the streaming era.

Discovery had Admiral Cornwell, but when she’s presented with alternative solutions, she hears them out.

Prodigy maaaaybe has Admiral Jellico… but his bad-ness was “Don’t start a war with the Romulans”.

Strange New Worlds has April, who is barely a presence.

Picard has Admiral “Sheer /bleeping hubris” Chancy which… can you blame her?

Arguably, the only proper Badmiral we’ve really had is Buenamigo in Lower Decks.
