Grab your games! What are you playing this month?

Title, platform, etc.

How long do you think it’ll take to beat it? Is it totally new or are you finishing it up?

  • I finished The Vagrant on the Steam Deck. It is a 2d action RPG. I was able to beat it in about 11 hours and there is a new game plus that ups the difficulty. I probably won't do that and will be moving on to the next game. The story was light, but enjoyable. The music was good. The combat mechanics was fun. The inventory was okay.

Not sure what I will start or finish next. Still been keeping up with The First Descendant. It's a grind, but it's still casually playable.

Congratulations! We’d love to hear about it!

    Did you complete the game?

What did you think of it?

Did you start on one game and switch to another?

Make sure to use spoiler tags if you’re posting anything about a game’s plot that might significantly hurt the experience of others that haven’t played the game yet (no matter how old or new the game is).

  • I just finished the main campaign of The First Descendant on a mix of Gaming PC and Steam Deck. I enjoyed playing it as Free to Play and spent about 50 hours playing through it.

Starting with the good: The game play of shooting and using skills was fun. They story itself was okay, but I still enjoyed it as comfort gaming. I see myself playing it on and off to do whatever story expansions there are for now. I haven't dug to deep into the grind but it seemed okay from my own experience. I'm pretty patient waiting for things and I will probably grind a for few characters when I just want to turn off my brain.

The bad: I am not sure if it is resolved yet, but damn I had so many disconnects at the worst time that I just stopped playing the game for the night and did something else. I feel the movement could be improved, just giving unlimited grappling shots would make it vastly more fun. Even though I played Warframe years ago I remember enjoying the movement much more in that game. The music is kind of forgettable I suppose as well.

Other thoughts, playing this game made me want to just Warframe, but the fact that I first played the game many years after release, and then only for a few months. Jumping back into it seems daunting and I would no doubt be loss. So maybe not.

  • Late to the party , but I fell off track with games I'm supposed to be playing. I will probably be getting through the story of The First Descendant. Even though it is story light...I am still enjoying it even the game play loop.

My friend didn't have a great experience with Linux
  • I would say unless you always want to do troubleshooting for this friend just stick him with windows. At some point it is up to the individual to be able to troubleshoot these issues using the Internet as the resource, but a lot of people just don't want to mess with that. My own time is too limited to be on call for people.

  • Check out antiperspirant for your feet. The issue might be related to your feet sweating and creating dampness in your shoe your whole shift. Also ideally have two pairs of shoes to alternate for work.

[Discussion] Do you guys play old AAA games?
  • Oldest one I boot up regularly is Super Mario World I would say. On a less frequent occasion I do also play Tecmo's Deception (PS1). I do like going back to Gradius for the SNES as well.

Contra and Contra 2 are fun, but very challenging games I will occasionally bust out.

PC gaming wise I have been playing City of Heroes and Diablo 1.

  • Yes I have. I switch between older AAA and current indie games. I have tried some recent AAA games as well. I play anything I want at the time I want to play something.

    Welcome! Take the 12in12 Challenge

"Shamelessly copied from old 12in12" (this is a very much spare time project for me, but figured I would give it a try)

    Mission

Take the challenge - Defeat your backlog!

A lot of gamers have built up a sizable backlog of games they haven't gotten around to finishing or even trying for the first time. With bundles and sales so tempting, it's easy to rack up a large library! Take the 12in12 challenge and knock down your backlog while having fun. A little community support can go a long way towards meeting your goals. How It Works

    • 1 Organize your backlog.
    • 2 Pick 12 games that you want to complete.
    • 3 Play one each month.
    • 4 Post about your progress and encourage others.

    Thread Schedule

Day of Month | Subject ---|--- 1st thru 5th | Monthly Starting Thread - Declare what game(s) you'll be playing so you can stick to it. 6th thru 24th | Monthly Genre Thread - Discuss the genre of the month with players on any platform. 25th thru end | Monthly Finishing Thread - Discuss what you attempted, completed, or lagged on.

    FAQ

Can I only join in January? And do I have to play a game in the genre of the month?

No! You can start at any time in the year, and you can play whatever games you want. The monthly genre thread is to unite gamers across all platforms in a fun discussion, and maybe provide some inspiration to pick something you'd otherwise miss from your backlog.

Do I have to play a game a month? Can I do more or fewer than that?

You can set up any goal you want. Some intrepid users are even attempting 52in52 (one game per week)! Everyone's schedule and situation is different, but try to set a realistic goal so you can keep on track with it throughout the year.

    What if I fall behind?

Life happens, and gaming is one of the first things to be pushed aside for other priorities. It's okay! You can adjust your goal or work on it more the next month. We have a monthly thread for discussing progress.

Am I not allowed to buy any new games?

Of course you can buy new games. However this community is about knocking a backlog down rather than adding to it. If you're chomping at the bit for that new AAA game or something that just came out, pick it up and play it right away.

I don't like one of the games I tried. Does that count?

Yes, it's good that you gave it a try and that's one less title on your list to worry about. Progress is great. If there's more time left in the month, pick another game and give it a go. Bundle addicts, we're looking at you here.--

Are there any good Black Friday deals this year?
  • It is mainly that some of it just seems to disappear throughout the year. Gets left behind at work or taken by someone on accident since a lot of people have the same set.

  • First episode was a good watch. I actually never heard of gamers actually searching out trash games to play but I guess that could be a thing. I am a fan of a duel wield protaganist and the MC's avatar in game is humorous.
