  • 2y ago (during the reddit app lockdown) there was a lot of groundswell for joining other communities. Quite a few people made how-to videos showing the process. Although I bet they're a little outdated now...

  • Nah, they just don't wanna do it, then they spread this rumor about the perils of our legal system preventing them. There's a thing called the Good Samaritan Food Donation Act in the US which absolves businesses from liability. But i believe it has to go to a distribution center, not directly to a person, which may require additional effort from the grocer/restaurant.

  • My father had it when he was trying to consolidate his utilities. It was nearly unusable even for watching a 720p youtube video. Whenever I visited his house, I elected to work offline rather than pull my hair out

  • I tried something similar with my mom. Unfortunately she couldn't handle it and stopped trying to use it after a few days, then went back to the old horrible habits of memorizing everything (except not, then getting frustrated). I realized I can't save everyone 😕

  • I forget which episode used it, but there was a graph of the "warp barriers" on one of the ships. Maybe Archer's Enterprise. It's on Google. Anyway the graph shows the different energy thresholds that must be output when moving between different velocity levels. Presumably every warp level was at least double the previous amount (edit, it's actually exponential!). The chat can extend beyond warp-10 but there may be a cutoff point where the energy required to push into the next threshold is no longer an effective use of resources.

  • I'm comparing it to ports larger ports like 3.5 and USB-A. The ports in the phone are fine, but the plugs on the headphone end wear out like crazy. Carrying a phone in my pocket with a USB-C header sticking out for a while day of work causes it to wiggle around no matter what I do. Eventually I realized it was a losing battle 😐

  • I hate how small the USB-C connector is though! They're fragile and wear out pretty quickly. Everybody discounts the round barrel jack size as if it's a bad thing, i think it's the exact opposite. It's large and the internal contacts are similarly large which keeps them working forever lol
