Capcom is worried that mods “offensive to public order and morals” will ‘tarnish’ the rep of their PC games
  • What I AM saying is that the idea that sexuality is inherently more offensive than killing is straight up backwards to me. It's not even a capcom thing. That's just most societies, but Capcom is hitting a nerve with this

Exactly, it's ludicrous and always was. Especially in this day and age.

    • Mom/Dad: Billy what are you watching?
    • Billy: The Texas chainsaw massacre.
    • Mom/Dad: What happens in that?
    • Billy: People get hacked up with a chainsaw.
    • Mom/Dad: Oh, ok.

    Later that day:

    • Mom/Dad: Billy what are you doing?
    • Billy: I'm playing Street fighter.
    • Mom/Dad: What's that?
    • Billy: It's a one on one fighting game.
    • Mom/Dad: Oh, that's nice... Wait a minute, IS THAT A PAIR OF BREASTS BILLY?!?!
    • Billy: yeah, I installed this mod and...
    • Mom/Dad: THAT'S IT! (Proceeds to confiscate the console)

As a parent myself, I understand not wanting to expose your kid to sexual content depending on their age, but in the context of sexual intercourse etc, not just a naked body.

Question regarding license choice for my program
  • Thanks for the replies everyone. I've decided to not let my concerns overcome the most important thing of releasing the project as fully open source.

Just going to go with GPLv3 and not worry about the clones that will happen regardless of the license type, if the program becomes popular.

Thank you all for your insight and for helping me come to what I believe to be the best decision.

Question regarding license choice for my program
  • I replied to a similar question below. Here it is:

Thanks. To be honest, I couldn't care less if people use parts of my code in commercial programs.

The only thing I'm trying to prevent is someone taking the entire project, changing some strings and icons and releasing a paid Android version based on my work. Especially as I will be releasing mobile versions myself after the desktop versions for free.

    Hey fellow Linux enthusiasts.

I'm inching closer to releasing my program for Linux. I'll go into details on what the program is when I release it, as it's not really relevant to this question (IMHO).

    Anyway, here are my prerequisites:

    • the program will be free. I will accept donations, but the program will be free to download and use.
    • open source.
    • I'm happy for others to use my code, as long as I'm credited.
    • I do not wish to allow others to use my code in commercial applications (as there will be mobile versions later, and I don't want clones selling it for money, as the mobile versions will also be free.

I'm looking for advice on the best code license to choose, based on my requirements. I'd also like it if my choice of license didn't prohibit my program from potentially being included in package managers.

I'm grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Halo Infinite Season 5: How Forge's New AI Toolkit Works - IGN
  • I was talking about broadband at home via a 4g/5g router, not on a phone. They offer plans specifically for people who want internet at home, but who can't get DSL/fibre.

Phones usually have a lower cap, like 50>200GB. I get 50GB with my phone provider for instance.

  • In my European country, there are no bandwidth caps for DSL or fibre connections. But if you're not in a town (which most of us aren't) and can only get internet via a 4g (or rarely 5g) connection, you have to live with a shitty 700GB cap, which is fucking ludicrous.

I found the reason why applications sometimes mysteriously get muted!
  • I believe there is a setting to disable showing the volume on applications open in the taskbar in the settings app (naturally, in desktop mode).

Or it might be an option after right clicking the taskbar. Can't recall which one it is.

Disabling this should prevent you from being able to mute them accidentally in the future.

Syncthing instead of Steam Cloud saves?
  • The only problem I foresee in doing this is adding every possible save location for games. They seem to save all over the place, so finding out the right directory to sync for each game is extremely time consuming.

I wanted to do this before, but gave up. If you want to only sync the game saves and not a ton of unrelated data, it's a chore.

Even tools like ludusavi don't have directory's added by default for anything non Steam due to this.

If anyone has a good solution to this, I'd love to hear it!

IIRC, this was a feature in the boost for Reddit client.

There was an option to mark posts as read as they scrolled off the top of the screen.

Are there any plans to implement this in boost for lemmy?

    Thank you.
