Coming soon: Fedora for Apple Silicon Macs!
  • X86_64 containers run just fine on my m2 Mac. Since macOS doesn’t really support containers, it’s really just running a vm to run the containers in. Changing the vm allows you to run a different arch. Rosetta makes that fairly easy. I use Colima to run my containers, and to make them run as x86_64 it’s just a command line flag

    Smoke Detector False Alarms?
  • I had this same issue. I had one alarm going off, and it had one of those 10 year batteries, and no off switch. I put it in a ziplock bag, and weighed it down in a pot of water. It continued to go off for hours. I sent the video to firstalert, they blamed dust, and told me I need to use compressed air about once a month to clean them out. F that, once a month???? I ditched them and got the google nests. They at least tell me which room is going to go off, and gives me a 10 second warning to silence them. You can silence them from any room, as long as you can reach them. Only had them go off randomly once and new batteries did fix it

What are some cool niche applications you use and recommend?
  • I use karabiner on my macbook so I can remap the fn key to command. So cmd + c is much more natural for me since I have long fingers and big hands. Stupid little cmd + c with thumb and pointer is just dumb

How long will the last Intel Macs be supported? macOS Sonoma gives us some hints
  • Not sure they will give you a choice. I just had to give up my intel 16 inch due to it throttling all the cpus down. Even the jet engines couldn't keep it cool enough to not throttle.
