  • Germany is the obvious evidence for that claim. Their once great industry is doing really bad due to high energy prices. Which is why even they are second guessing the Energiewende.

Despite insane levels of investment in renewables, they are still stuck on gas en lignite and have very high energy prices.

Merkel's bet that Russian gas could always be depended on didn't work out.

  • The "expensive" argument is bollocks.

It's not too expensive for China, South Korea, Japan, the USA, France, the UAE, Iran, India, Russia.

The countries without nuclear will deindustrialize and the countries with nuclear will outcompete them.

  • Even Japan is restarting their reactors

Solar and wind are great, but major industrialized nations will need some nuclear capacity.

It's going to happen sooner or later.

The question is just about how long we delay it, with extra emissions and economic depression in the mean time.

  • They are (or were) the biggest producer of Fentanyl (allegedly).

But I have also heard experts say that Fentanyl manufacturing is just moving to the US for domestic consumption, so I don't know if it's still true.

  • It's mostly the other way around: Americans want products from the rest of the world.

But to answer your question directly: there are products which only the US makes, but more importantly, if American products become cheaper due to a weaker dollar, then people will buy them. That's what Trump is hoping for.

  • That's a bit optimistic.

Trump is deliberately choosing chaos as a strategy, but his goal is quite clear.

Biden didn't roll back a lot of Trump's tariffs, so I am assuming these tariffs could easily extend beyond Trump.

Since the US economy will be paying the price on the short term, the situation next year and beyond will be that the US best interest would be to not rollback anything without trade partners offering concessions.

  • The countries with the lowest tariffs will become connector economies. Whether governments want it or not, there is just too much profit to be made.

This is why Trump is specifically targeting those countries, but then other countries will take their place.

And the end game is, Trump can succeed, but not without a global recession and much higher prices for Americans.

  • I've said it often before.

LLM's are really great for many use cases. Transcribing, translating, summarizing, editing, code generation, etc.

But the marginal difference between the cheap models like DeepSeek and the top-of-the-line is low.

So take transcribing, translating, summarizing and editing. Why would anyone spend top dollar when DeepSeek does it basically free?

The potential market for the state of the art models is very limited and will never recoup the 100s of billions being invested.

  • And how will they know if you're a fundie or not?

What they're doing is checking phones and social media. If they see you are a member of some antifa or BLM org, they'll get you.

So don't do those things via Facebook. Use meshtastic and hide your receiver.

But if you practice good OpSec and all they see is baseball, BBQ and church, then they won't be able to tell the difference.

  • Thanks for the effort post with great tips!

I would also really recommend having a physical community near you, not just online contacts.

I would even go so far as to say: join a progressive protestant church It's not a silver bullet, but the fascists in the US are Christian Nationalists and some of them will hesitate to mistreat a Christian. And some of them will feel an obligation towards a Christian.

This is a big part of why Martin Luther King wasn't killed earlier. The thugs in the 50s had no problem persecuting "godless heathens" in the McCarthy era, but black Christians were Christians.

And yes, they were also mistreated, but it would have been much worse if they had been atheist or communist.

Fascists divide the world very black and white. Us v. Them

Looking like them provides a survival advantage.

  • It is quite safe. What I heard about this case is that the victim was happy with the outcome.

They met at a party, she was drunk. He said he asked consent, she said he raped her. There was no evidence or allegation of force, just that she couldn't have consented in her drunken state.

    He had a clean record.

He got convicted and ordered to pay €3500 and if he commits another crime, then this one will count too.

She was satisfied with the outcome. She especially wanted recognition that it was rape.

I think this is a good outcome. If he ever rapes someone again, he'll be a serial rapist and get the book thrown at him.

And on the flipside, I find it difficult to throw the book at people under the circumstances in these kind of cases.
