Why would someone desire a pension instead of a 401k?
  • I put a good chunk of my 401k in CDs.

    Edit:

It's less than an 8th of my fund, just because I don't like where the market is sitting right now, I'm keeping something secure in case something bad happens to me while something bad happens to the world.

My point was to respond to someone who is morally opposed to stocks. There are other ways to go about it (irrespective of good advice).

  • It seems to me that the employer will fund it either way. Maybe I'm misremembering stories of pensions being mismanaged and lost. I think the most important thing is that the employer actually does something to fund a retirement, in my way of thinking the 401k approach puts me in control of the money so I don't rely on someone else to not fail.

Whether it's promised bonuses, stocks, or retirement funds, my motto is always "show me the money", and I'll believe it when it's in my hands.

I had my first ride on a motorbike the other day, It was scary but exciting at the same time. Really want to get my CBT & my own bike in the future
  • Get obsessed with learning new ways to be safe. It's more fun than it sounds like, I think doing a great job being in traffic and choosing the right way to control your bike is a really rewarding path. And the safer you are the longer you get to ride.

How often do you perform specific chores at home?
  • I hate doing my bedding too.

Actually I don't even hate it, I just never think of it. It never seems to force me to think about it like other dirty things do.

  • What's your cadence for maintenance? Is there anything you think you should be doing more frequently? Is there anything you do extra proactively because you don't like seeing it left undone?

I'm also curious about how much time you spend taking care of your home and how that balances with the rest of your personal life, and how you share the load with other people you live with.

  • I have the best success using a towel snap against flies.

Sometimes I think I don't even hit them but it stuns them so they fall to the floor.

What was the path like to your current career, and what parts would you recommend for or against another person following?
  • If you exist you are not underqualified! I want to hear everyone's version of the human experience and making things work in our societies.

If you aren't satisfied with where you're at, it may put things in perspectivefor other readers just as much as the earlier portions of someone else's story who is pleased with their career progress.

I recently heard an idea that "success is a lagging indicator". You cannot know that you are not currently on a path to success.

  • Feel free to be economic with the truth by using aliases for organizations and products wherever it protects your privacy or your contracts. I'm mainly interested to hear about your unique experience.

Example follow-up questions: What was most rewarding, what was not? What was not a great use of your time but maybe still a learning experience? What were you interested when you were younger (for hobbies or otherwise) that may have helped guide you?

    Welcome to Mindful Technology
  • I don't know how to contribute but I'm looking forward to following the insights here. I desperately need to become more intentional in my life and fix up my default behaviors especially with my Internet habits.

    It's a risk worth taking.
  • That sounds cool fun and easy but armed and untrained and undisciplined nut jobs crawling from the woodwork is not going to be a clean finish for anyone involved. Obviously this isn't meant to be a deterrent for the justice system... but we're working on a different tier here. It's not going to be high profile business and agencies fighting each other. It's going to be normal working people being attacked by deranged wing nuts and always by surprise, because there will be no centcom for them.

So, if you think you're going to be prepared for an outcome like this, I do wonder what you're packing.
