It's not uncommon for tourists to leave their passports or other valuables / important stuff with the hotel for safekeeping. Though obviously your experience with this may differ by geography.

It sounds barbaric, if you don’t stop to think about it for more than a second. Most jobs include some element of unpaid work. Teachers prepare lessons ahead of class. Nurses stay late to finish charting or prepare medications. Why, even journalists put in hours off the clock, transcribing interviews or travelling for a story.

Oh fuck off. Is there a reason you can't count it in the contract and put figures on it? Oh right, because then despite your bullshit figures it'd turn out the numbers don't actually favour you.

It does depend on the condition of the train and rail network, though. It could be going at 60 kph, and if it was bouncing and jouncing around, I'd be worried it was going too fast too.

Not saying that was necessarily the case here, but it's a possible explanation

Counterpoint: LotR trilogy, where we know pretty much everything about the production and income (a lot of income), somehow mysteriously stays unprofitable to this day.

As long as the maker of the clone doesn't just copy the code of the original game they have to build every single function and every script themself. Also how those parts work together. Bugs sometimes require creative ways of working around them. If the developer doesn't work with templates that is a lot of decision making on how the game is supposed to function.

None of that requires creativity. I say that as a programmer.

If they don't want to spend a lot of money they also have to create the assets. 3D models or sprites, sounds, music, GUI.

Which... Is the issue under discussion here, that they didn't bother to create something new, but just copied the look and feel of the existing assets.
