  • Yep! I was worried when they told me. Having high cholesterol at 37/38 is a bad sign of what's to come. I'm happy it was situational rather than permanent.

  • WET AF

omg, I was laughing so hard when I saw that 😂

  • I don't mean to belittle your feelings about it, but I would find that cute af. There are certainly people around you that would feel the same.

  • One thing I had to learn was that if I asked someone out and they said no or didn't reciprocate wasn't a loss or rejection.

Not only that, but you dodged a bullet. I thank women when they respectfully reject me. It's awesome.

Also, think about all the times you were turned down. Does any of that matter now?? Nope. No one involved cares at all if they even remember. I think something that might help with this is for OP to place themselves in a position where they reject others. They could experience the other side and see that it's not a bad thing. It's just that they think it's not for them and nothing else. And even in the rare chance that the rejection is seen as something else by the rejecting person, then even better because that's not just dodging a bullet but dodging an artillery shell.

  • Maybe it's not that you can't be what someone else wants, but that you aren't finding or building relationships with the people that would want you. There are so many people with such vasts tastes, that there is someone for everyone, even serial killers or 40 year olds that dress in diapers. Whatever you are, there are people that are looking for that. It's a matter of finding and building a relationship with them. ♥️

  • What community was that? I want to check the mod log to confirm and then possibly block the community. I don't want to subject myself to a news feed that prevents people from sharing straight facts.

  • Can someone explain the humor of the 4 panel comic the character in the first panel likes? What's the red liquid in the container about?

  • This is me. I've never said, "This is too much garlic."

Fun fact: I tend to get obsessed with eating the same thing for months. One of those obsessions was kettle-cooked salt & vinegar chips. I'm talking about a large bag before bed every 2 days. I did this for about 3-6 months. During that period, I had a regular primary care check up with routine blood work. My cholesterol came back terrible. My HDL was too low and LDL was too high. It was so bad that the doctor told me that they were putting me on Lipitor eventho I was in 37/38 years old and otherwise athletic shape.

I argued with the doc explaining that I could fix it on my own with diet. We negotiated and the compromise was that I had 3 months to fix it. In 3 months, we would run blood work again. If it was still high, Lipitor time. I cut off all chips and started eating raw garlic however I could with meals. I would mostly use a garlic press and marinate it in olive oil. Then, I would drip a lot of this on rice, beans, pasta, pizza... anything that would go good with raw garlic. When we ran the blood work again, I was in the clear with completely healthy cholesterol levels, both HDL and LDL.

I don't know if the garlic had anything to do with it, or if it was merely just abstaining from the chips, but something worked. If you're dealing with cholesterol issues and don't want to be on meds, maybe consider eating raw garlic. It might help, and even if it doesn't, it's delicious 🤤

  • If it were me, I would call an exterminator. Anything under $200 would be totally worth not having to deal with it and knowing that they'll take care of it better than I could.

Spiders in general is one thing, but a ton of black widows is something I wouldn't mess with. Those spiders could make you quite sick if not ending up in the hospital. Shieeeet. If you're of a vulnerable population like elderly, young, or already sick, they could kill you.

  • A few number of spiders throughout the house is ok as long as they stay away from me. A ton of black widow spiders is an absolute no from me, dawg.

  • After watching Narcos on Netflix and seeing how bad it is in Mexico, I cant even imagine a practical solution. The narco seeps thru all of society.

  • You saw ads on reddit, but they were disguised as posts and comments from "real" users.

  • Step 2: Don't stop stop doing it

  • I have lived in Florida 90% of my life. I have never had a frog swim up the toilet pipe or even ever seen a frog in a toilet. How does that even happen?

  • Singapore sounds like a really cool, safe, clean, organized, and hi-tech city, but their laws and enforcement seems a bit extreme to my American self. I both want to visit and am scared of visiting.

  • Hi @RayOfSunlight@lemmy.world , @haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com , @Sharkwellington@lemmy.one , and @zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone ,

This comment chain got a bit heated, which tells us this topic is important to those involved. We have created this community for us to have a place to be freely autistic without ridicule or social punishment and to advocate for autism acceptance and accommodation. As such, we moderate differently than most other communities in that we take autistic traits into account. Sometimes, those traits lead to social misunderstandings even amongst ourselves. In addition to that, we also feel things strongly, tend to have a strong sense of justice, and have likely had a long history of being misunderstood ourselves or even purposefully bullied. Combining all of that can and often results in strong emotional responses. The mods themselves have these experiences too, so we get it. Each of us will probably have one soon.

With this in mind, we hope to use this comment chain as an opportunity to learn and unite. To us, it seems that this started with a misunderstanding of the spirit of the messages, so maybe we can clear things up using a message-spirit translator and hopefully the users feel comfortable to correct us if we are wrong.

RoS: I don’t like that we are treated as if we had super powers.

Haui: Some of us do have extraordinary mental capacities though.

SW: I have been deemed to have extraordinary mental capacities, but I don’t like to think that it is valid. Maybe I’m just good at succeeding in the way psychologists measure mental capacities.

Haui: I feel that my perspective has been deemed invalid. I find the measurement method has some validity and am proud of my extraordinary mental capacities.

SW: One, I’m confused. Two, here is some advice from my perspective that I think would avoid our confusion and related displeasure. Three, I’m autistic and belong here. Four, I don’t want to participate in this discussion further.

Haui: One, I belong here too, and so do my perspectives. Two, here is some advice from my perspective that I think would have helped with this discussion. Three, I think that your opinion on the way mental capacities are measured by the field of psychology can ultimately be hurtful to others.

Zea: I am not emotionally involved in this discussion, so I would like to help by pointing out where I think it went sour by clarifying a few misunderstandings, mostly focused on Haui.

In summary, we have all been treated as different and ostracized throughout our lives. That is painful and has contributed to how we have accommodated ourselves and worldviews to survive as weirdos, quirky, or whatever other terms that mean we don’t get to fit in. Furthermore, no one in this chain is tolerating it anymore (boundaries!). RoS doesn’t agree that we are equally different. Haui is proud to be different. SW acknowledges that they are different, but doesn’t want to be treated differently based on that. Zea doesn’t like us fighting. BomBS (me) argues that everyone is fundamentally valid and in this specific instance and that having a compassionate understanding for each other’s statements would be helpful to all involved and the community we are growing.

tl;dr: We have had difficult and painful experiences that are common to autistic people. Mix that with difficulties with social interactions and hypersensitivity, and we can respond quite strongly which can debilitate our conversations. At the same time, we are different people with different personalities and situations. That has led us to adjust in different ways. Those ways are valid and work for the associated individual considering they are doing their best. Let’s work together so that we and society can accept each other’s differences to being autistic.

  • so why don't they write 1/1000 in then?
