My Job Is to Train Tesla's Cars to Drive Themselves
  • oh you watch videos and it's hard to concentrate after a while? Welcome to actual driving jobs

Watching videos is comparable to e.g. ATC work. I don't see driving as comparable. In one you're actively doing something. In the others you're only checking for stuff that might go wrong but usually goes ok.

There's a significant difference in ATC vs the training AI: in ATC work people are swapped out after a few hours and they have regular breaks. While here for that AI the company is pretending it can be done for an 8 hour shift.

I have no doubt that we will likewise see the mental and physical effort of driving as well as the danger of it become as unconscionable as threshing or machine operator work is to us now.

Meh, that's been said for ages. Currently the reliability of automated driving is often crazily overestimated. Human driving is pretty reliable, especially on highways.

Change for the better is good. But just because there's a computer involved doesn't mean it's already better or that'll be foolproof.

Election Deniers Secretly Pushed Rule That Would Make It Easier to Delay Certification of Georgia’s Election Results
  • People are paying way too little attention to this.

The media conveniently ignores it. Loads of media companies are for profit instead of reporting what's going on. Media is needed in a democracy. Unfortunately media being a business makes them easy to be bought.

  • There are different type of smoke alarms. Some detect smoke. There are two ways of doing that. Near a kitchen area it's usually best to get a completely different one that just uses changes in temperature. Though they will only notify you way matter. So highly recommend keeping the existing one and moving that one somewhere else.

  • Might not be enough. Apparently they have better plans in place to manipulate the voting proces into (incorrectly) declaring Trump and others the winner, even if the votes say something else.

Intel class action lawsuit investigation begins for the company's CPU crashing and instability issues
  • That said, the amount of troubleshooting and wasted time that it took to figure out that the CPU was responsible for months of random crashes

I went through something similar, so I understand.

My (AMD) CPU was defective. But if was only noticeable that it would never be able to wake up from suspend. I didn't really notice crashes. Just broken suspend. I thought it was a Linux kernel bug, though couldn't figure out any details. Only after almost a year of pain (no suspend) the CPU just didn't boot at all anymore.

It was sort of replaced under warranty by the store. They took ages to investigate, then gave a store gift card. Likely because the CPU was temporarily out of stock. I had to wait for the CPU to be in stock to be able to buy it again. Fortunately still had the previous AM4 CPU.

The new CPU suspends without any issues. Took months to be able to not doubt suspend. E.g. if it was suspended I usually thought it had crashed.

An unreliable CPU is a terrible experience.

Why were Republicans freaking out over a drag performance at the Olympics?
  • Read what you wrote again. It is full of contradictions. If it's for everybody, then why do you want to exclude people? If it is niche, then why suddenly is it full of rich people?

Suggest to lay off following whatever right wing media you're following. Especially those who blame everything on a small group, trans, drag, women, race, etc.

  • McDonald's is not consistent though. A hamburger can often be flimsy thin. I don't get why you'd go there. There are enough fast food options with lower prices. McDonald's is often really terrible.

The CNN article article also briefly puts a high figure for coal on energy, which could lead to confusion.

Verstappen will stop competing in simracing late at nights before Grands Prix, says Marko
  • Sky mentioned it over and over during the race. Easier to pretend it's only this instead of listening to the complaints Max has been making for multiple races.

There's usually multiple causes of why something happens. But it's often pretended it's a singular thing. So the sleeping is pointed to, and then the other causes can be ignored.

Verstappen set for Belgian GP grid penalty for engine change
  • Especially as everyone knows that they don't have the same advantage. Last year it wouldn't make sense to try and defend a position against Max due to the massive difference in lap times. Currently it might be pretty easy to hold him off.

  • Does Max start ahead of Perez or behind Perez after the penalty is applied?

Most logically is that Max is still ahead. So I'll go with behind Perez, because else it would be too damn clear how bad the situation is.

the meltdown from Horner and Marko will be something worth watching.

Aren't those two divided on which driver their prefer? Also, Horner tried to get rid of Marko, no?

The scores on the doors from the last five rounds of the championship McLaren and Mercedes in fine form but Max is still top dog
  • I'm amazed that you think Ricciardo is performing at an equal level as Tsunoda. Then I checked and it seemed for the last 5 races or so Ricciardo finished higher. Quite surprising, I basically wrote Ricciardo off ages ago!

Anyway, Ricciardo had it difficult after not being able to perform in McLaren. Not exactly sure if he's able to handle pressure still. Finishing slightly better than Tsunoda for a few races isn't that impressive to me.

Putting Lawson directly in the Red Bull is probably too much of a risk

    Agreed.

Quite curious as to what is going to happen. There's (was?) a power struggle in Red Bull, seems different people there have different drivers as their preference. They seem to be stubborn.
