A hidden consequence of the gig economy is that workers keep asking customers for sex or dates
  • Leave it at the door is the default option for all my services I use. Have literally never spoken to the a gig worker before, during or after delivering something for me.

Does the US have zero employee protection laws??
  • Don't know how Americans do it honestly. At will states, no parental leave or even maternity leave(this is mind blowing plus add on the cost to birth a baby at a hospital like 🤯🤯), 2 weeks vacation, no sick time, poor insurance, etc. Read an article that says their minimum wage hasn't increased in over a DECADE. So yeah, it seems like they have very little protection.

So odd and I find I work with a fair amount of people from NA who "humble brag" about working so much or it's been years since I had a day off... just don't get it. 🤷.

    Mullvad Announce Latest Infrastructure Audit
  • I've been using Mullvad on PC/android for years... Even since the port forwarding has been removed I still use it. Been considering Proton though.

Anyone here use Proton(free or paid)? How is it?

Do you trust Brave company and their products: Browser, Search, VPN, etc..?
  • Nope. Iceraven or Firefox forks or just Firefox in general are the ones I use. Don't trust those guys either but at least it's better than everything else out there.

    What movie(s) exceeded your expectation?
  • Pacific Rim and Blade Runner 2049.

Pacific Rim was the first GDT movie I watched and was blown away that I could like mech/Kaiju so much.

Blade Runner 2049 was one I went in with low expectations because of how much I loved the OG even if Villeneuve had directed a ton of excellent movies prior. Came away with 2049 probably being my fav movie of all time.

  • Nope. I don't see any spaces. Someone else responded saying they selected "Do Not Consent" on original setup and I think I did the same.

What books get you out of your reading slump?
  • I'd say there's a fair amount of names. Not at the beginning but if you get to the later books, yeah there is. I wouldn't say the world building is too out of hand. If you can keep up with an anime like DBZ I'd say you'd be fine.

  • Where are the ads everyone's talking about? I haven't seen any and I haven't paid anything or will they only start when it's out of beta?

[Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - August 2023
  • Just started Elden Ring for the first time a few days back. First game I played where I was generally blown away how well it runs and looks for a handheld PC.

Android users who don't use the stock launcher - what launcher do you use, and what do you like about it?
  • Been trying a few. Niagara on my phone and Microsoft Launcher for my tablet.

Don't overly love Microsoft on my tablet honestly. Probably going to choose another listed in this thread to try.

Niagara has been great on my phone though. Just so minimal. Huge fan.
