GM Says It's Dropping Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Because They're Unsafe
  • I mostly use Waze for navigation. And the alerts button setting is pretty small. However I find that just having it on alerts is enough for day to day use.

It’s true that for new routes I do enable the full guided voice assist

GM Says It's Dropping Apple CarPlay And Android Auto Because They're Unsafe
  • They’re going about this all wrong.

Apple car is not the issue. It’s all the other touch inputs that I have on my car to control every basic function like the climate controls and other shit.

Apple car switches on, already the navigation is setup and the music is on… I don’t need to touch it again. I can switch songs on my steering wheel and I can ask Siri for basic shit like finding a playlist.

I don’t need to go through a touch menu or button to change the temperature or any other action setting while in motion.

  • As an adult I’ve often tried to be conscious of when different aches are not happening. Maybe it’s a sign of getting old.

Brazil's president calls U.S. economic embargo on Cuba 'illegal,' condemns terrorist list label
  • As someone who just lost their ESTA, this whole thing is bullshit.

I’m a citizen of an European country, left Cuba when I was a minor and have zero interest in going to Cuba.

Yet I can’t go see my daughter in the USA without a visa.

Literally last week I was at the US Embassy requesting the visa, they gave me a 10 year pass (thank fuck).

But my whole family has to go through the same process. It’s all bullshit. I had to wait in line for two hours, in a city that’s far away from where I live, just to get the visa.

Edit: not to mention that this whole process takes hundreds of euros, around 150€ just for filling their online form, then add travel and accommodation expenses.

Visual Studio for Mac Retirement Announcement - Visual Studio Blog
  • In my previous company I used VS for Mac, it wasn’t a great experience… but it was better than nothing. Then along came a Rider license…

The tooling for VS Code might have improved, but Rider is the IDE of choice… even on windows.

Microsoft wins lawsuit and will go ahead with the purchase of Activision
  • While I agree that in the end this is probably not good in the long run, I do hope they do something with the state of Call of Duty, activision has killed the franchise. Just look at the latest warzone / MW player count.

I used to enjoy playing with my friends. But the game is so broken.

I do think Phil Schiller is a good guy, let’s hope this doesn’t go sideways.

Maybe I’m being naive… only time will tell.

Advice for shifting into a software developer management role
  • Try and get a good training on management.

Don’t micro manage, protect your team, those under you need to be able to trust you and look out for them.

Trust in your team and listen to their concerns. Managing people is about creating a positive environment where constructive criticism is welcomed.

On most companies I’ve worked, the team is usually more aware of issues because they are in the trenches. You have to ensure that they have a good enough environment where they feel like they can improve things.

As it is now in my current company, most devs started with a positive attitude and with a big urge to improve things for the wider team (not just their individual projects) and a year later nobody gives a shit about anything because management was not there to shield them from corporate bullshit. Now the work environment is crap and people are already looking to leave.

This is just off the top of my head.
