Cobain was cared about and treated with concern while Winehouse was seen as a joke, somewhat like Gazza (British former footballer Paul Gascoigne, known for his alcohol-fuelled decline and very much left to it). I don't really remember Cobain, but in the late 2000s it was clear that Amy was on a very self-destructive path and nobody was going to care until she wound up dead.
