"What kind of music are you into?"
  • Big Iron is cool within the context of fallout new vegas but I never cared about that song as it's own thing. I find King of the Road annoying but that's probably my dad's fault for playing it any time we drove anywhere for any reason.

  • I watched a documentary about dick enlargement procedures and those pills are all fake. They're just viagra and that's what they mean by making your dick grow.

The Best Thing About Amazon Was Never Going to Last | If shopping on the site feels different now, that’s because it is
  • I used to live somewhere isolated where it was impossible to get basically anything. People actually wanted walmart to come so they wouldn't have to wait until they're out of town to do a big shopping spree for baby clothes or camera stuff or anything that wouldn't be at the hardware or furniture store. Online shopping was great for that but when it comes to Amazon you might as well buy from AliExpress or Temu since it will be fished out of the same Chinese landfill regardless.

The EU says X is the worst platform for disinformation | Just as it removes a way to report election misinformation
  • If lemmy didn't take over the world after the Reddit schism then I don't think twitter will ever die either. Twitter users have been given every reason to leave yet there's already lots of people paying money to the person they hate the most in the world just to use it. And most of those people aren't really people anymore, they're twitter users on every level of their being. It would be like a blobfish out of water.

Dotfiles matter! Please stop dumping files in users’ $HOME directories.
  • I don't touch it either for two reasons that go together.

    1. It's a pig sty before I even get there.
    2. Nothing in there will ever be included in backups for that reason.

My cloud drive has SO much random flstudio crap in it. That's the worst program in the world when it comes to that. If you install their program they think they own your hard drive.

Also while I'm bitching about windows folders, why did they make it so weird to get to your home folder? It feels like we aren't supposed to know it exists anymore.

Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024
  • I use it too and I find it perfect. Most music players also have a podcast feature. I used to use pocketcasts but they decided to update (ruin) the interface and I'm still mad about it.

You can’t view notifications in the app without enabling push notifications and email notifications now
  • It sucked before too. Certain types of notification were only viewable in the app. If you had one, it would give you an orange envelope on the mobile site, but nothing new could be seen inside. And it wouldn't even tell you what's happening so I just wrote off the entire notification system as broken. So if I got a reply on Reddit I wouldn't know because there's no indication. I still won't ever install the app and I'm now less likely to do so because I hate push notifications.

There is a drop in monthly active Lemmy users (from 65k to 57k)
  • Thanks for the community recommendations, they seem like great points to explore from. I also love Linux and tech in general, otherwise I probably wouldn't be here. But I have other interests too. That's something I find to be decent about tildes surprisingly, considering you need to be a massive tech nerd just to access one.

There is a drop in monthly active Lemmy users (from 65k to 57k)
  • Tankies and American democrats are scaring away the hoes. Source: I'm a hoe that has barely been coming here lately. There's not enough people here for niche communities to thrive, and the front page has been getting worse and worse. Today I saw this post on the front page, pretty close to the top.

    https://lemmy.ca/post/3725038

I'd like to be clear that I don't care who americans voted for 7 years ago, but that's not why I don't think I should be seeing this. It's just, sheesh man. THIS is what the community wants and thinks is important in 2023? I'm trying to find a niche amongst THIS?

It's very similar to my problem with Gemini and every other "alt tech" platform I've tried to join. Worst case scenario it becomes a sewer for everyone who got banned from other sites for political extremism. Best case scenario, you end up with nothing but the demographic of upper class americans who do nothing but sit on their computers all day, which is not my scene either.

I'm starting to wonder if I should just leave the internet altogether.
