What's a scam that's so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?
  • What's wrong with mac OS? It's been working for my developer laptops without any big issues for a decade.

Sure I prefer linux, but OSX is infinitely better than dealing with the BS I had to put up with when I worked in a .NET shop.

A functional terminal, docker works well with virtual networks, and brew exists.

  • "Pay money into this big pool, and if you have an emergency then we miiiight pay you some back. We keep any extra btw"

It makes a lot more sense to me to just keep an emergency fund and a few close friends.

I just wanted to take a minute to appreciate interchangable batteries
  • In parallel. The capacitor smooths out the power and keeps it from spiking and shutting down over and over.

A resistor (in series) would help too but might restrict power too much to work well.

No harm in adding a capacitor.

On almost all my projects the weird behavior has been solved by throwing a cap in it

  • Get some silicone sport bands for it (18mm)

The stock band for the f91w hurts my delicate skin after a couple days.

Best watch of all time once you add the band. I've had it for several years and the battery is still going, and it keeps time more accurately than any other watch I've owned.

  • Carpet tape too, which can stick anything to anything and also not leave a residue.

And reusable zip ties. I would die without those

  • Looks like it was the fahgettaboutit lock, but same thing https://youtu.be/jXoS_HB1I3o

PS, get the chain versions and not the ulock if possible, in test videos I watched it seemed like the chain versions were much more annoying for the angle grinder user. Look at how long it takes this guy, and in reality the chain isn't going to be on a nice platform like that https://youtu.be/uZdCNRcSkCk

  • Lockpicking lawyer's hydrolic bolt cutter exploded on it.

Angle grinders will cut through anything, but they're loud, and if you have a lock that takes more than 30 seconds to grind or 1 grinder disk, well why would the thief bother vs one of the easier targets?

Also tape an airtag somewhere on the bike.

  • This is the one I'm talking about, $75

Kryptonite Evolution 1055 Mini 10mm Chain Bicycle Lock , Black https://a.co/d/0xjPXNw

If your bike is worth over $300 then imo it's worth it, now that every douchebag has a mini bolt cutter in their backpack (around here)

    Electric cars
  • It's two months later and I've done a 180 on this opinion and went from "fuck gas cars" to "fuck all cars".

The car infrastructure is the shitty part, not so much the cars

  • If you already have a good pedestrian vehicle: a good bike lock.

I (and lockpicking lawyer) recommend the kryptonite evolution. Good balance of price and protection.

For a step up I recommend the kryptonite fahgettaboutit.

Either way, bolt cutters aren't getting in, and portable angle grinders will take a little while because the chain is annoying to grind.

I see too many expensive bikes chained up with thin little locks.

  • I was gonna say this.

$100 on craigslist or a local bike refurbishing place (where I got mine) will get you something that will last for years.

Throw in a $15 bike lock, a cheap returned helmet, and a $5 rear bike light and you're set for life.

  • I got one for $40 that's 1080p, and the "high endurance" sd card I got for $15 is still going 4 years later.

Don't overthink it. You don't need something fancy.
