Where are all the artists at?
  • Thanks for the hint. I do know Lemmy, but not in the depth that is required ;)

Where are all the artists at?
  • The short version: It doesn't matter if you use Lemmy, Mastodon, Friendica or any other platform to participate in the Fediverse.

The Fediverse is an open stream of data (writing, images, videos, geodata, etc.) and all projects in the Fediverse can receive this data stream.

There is a certain degree of specialisation in order to better meet certain challenges. For example, you can easily share long videos with Peertube. Pixelfed specialises in the sharing of images and Lemmy in the aggregation of links.

There are also sites such as Mastodon, which specialises in microblogs, or Friendica, with which you can write long content and structure the content with Markdown or BBCode.

This content is created with Friendica, for example. So I don't use Lemmy. Nevertheless, they can see the content and we can interact with each other. This is because our software, which we have used to log in, is connected to each other via the same data stream. Only our front end looks different.

But this also means that with your Lemmy account, you can receive all the content if it is available in the data stream. Enter a few hashtags that you would like to be displayed. When posts with this hashtag are published, you should be able to find this content in your personal timeline.

  • A project in the Fediverse is not an encapsulated unit. Therefore, each project is potentially the right one to create and distribute content and all others are able to receive and display the content.

    Albatross

There is a bird, that sailors have crowned to be the ruler; he flies around the earth from the south pole to the north. No goal is too far: The albatross knows no boundaries.

He sails with dignity, wanders through the air, as if he were a god. He follows their ships on the high seas, through cliffs, intoxicating his flight: He seeks their way through the sea.

And the storms are crashing with brute force on the oceans, so far, then he flies with fire and rises tremendously to the freedom of the seas.

But when he is caught in arm-heavy slings with malice and cunning, then the wings break; it mourns, the sea, that misses the ruler: Being trapped means death to him.

The slaves of the earth, mocked and hurt, they shared his fate, when he was tied up, Bleeding on the shore, his flight is broken: The albatross was their symbol.

But the vastness calls him, the endless power, then he storms out into the open with boundless strength; he swings his wings, blows up locks and bolts the shackles and chains.

And when the walls pile up and grab him, from clouds like lead; and when lightnings hit him, he fights the obstacle with his wings. He also finds his way in a hurricane

    > No More was founded by Andy A. Schwarz (vocals, guitar, bass), Tina Sanudakura (synthesizers), Christian Darc (drums, vocals) and Thomas Welz (bass, vocals) in Kiel, a seaside town in the northern part of Germany. The 7-inch EP "Too Late" was the first release in 1980 and was recorded in a small laundry-room with a 4-track TEAC (the EP was reviewed in the German SOUNDS-magazine as "strangely, archaic music, brute sound that seems to be recorded with a purposely damaged 4-track"). After the departure of Thomas Welz at the end of 1980, No More worked as a trio until the end of 1983.

How she feels she should have been able to prevent it. If she'd bought him a guitar when he asked for one.” ((Radio 1, BBC, 11 October 1980)

Glass garden Glass garden It is formed like by the water, frozen. Cracked laughter. Elves rush together between the clear flowers Of the frozen-like branches, of the glass-like trees. Do they live well? They don't cast shadows, Only broken images. They glow. In the glass garden Time gets lost And stays as a moment.

(Refrain) Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

Nothing smells, The fruits are tasteless. Who enjoys it? Good... In the crystals light gets lost. The flowers look brittle and frigid. Whom should I send this cold, To realize this emptiness? It is impossible to gather them, They burst in thousand of shards, The tiny cristals, that sing scattering around, Accompanying the breathe of the elves, For everyone Who is ready to listen to.

(Refrain) Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

(Refrain) Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

How everything is so clear, smooth, pure How everything is so clear, smooth, pure

Only the moon shows the way to tomorrow morning, Allows a new day for the sun. The moon kisses light in the glass garden.

(Intro/Refrain) Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden. Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden.

Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden.

Everything Blossoms purely like, Like crystals, For me in the glass garden.

(Refrain) Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden. Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden.

Entirely of glass, And cold as ice, Every tree in the glass garden Blossoms so purely Like crystals Everything In the glass garden.

(Refrain) Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden. Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden.

And the flowers look brittle, It's completely impossible to gather them. They burst in crystals That sing softly while scattering around. And the breathe of the gentle elves That accompany with the quietest tone, Through the garden, entirely of light, To the one, if he can still hear.

(Refrain) Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden. Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden.

Entirely of glass and Cold as ice is, Every tree here In the glass garden

Everything Blossom purely Like crystals For me in the glass garden

(Outro/Refrain) Entirely of glass, Cold as ice, Every tree, glass garden. Everything blossoms purely Like crystals, in the glass garden. Goethes Erben & Peter Heppner - Glasgarten

Diaspora* - is it any good?
  • @deadsuperhero @spitz
There are several macroblog platforms in the Fediverse. My personal favourite is #Friendica. It's certainly not the most intuitive platform. But it works extremely well and has the most connectivity (next to Hubzilla).

In addition to AP, Diaspora and a number of other older Fedi protocols, I'm connected to Tumblr & Bluesky here and can interact directly with users there.

The UI got stuck sometime in the middle of 2015. More front-end developers are needed to remedy this shortcoming.

Firefish, on the other hand, is super modern but feels a bit sluggish (for my taste). Alongside Friendica, it's actually a great platform, also because both use RSS and Markdown, a markup language that's great for creating structured content.

Diaspora* - is it any good?
  • @deadsuperhero
If I follow the internal discussions at Diaspora, it doesn't want to either and it has been justified in various places that AP is not an alternative for Diaspora.

    @denschub@pod.geraspora.de:

diaspora* has no interest in implementing ActivityPub, so I don't know what your question even means.

  • @olivier @spitz
You are probably referring to this article. That is in the past. The Diaspora team had learned and the protocol is now far more advanced than ActivityPub.

By the way, it was Friendica and Diaspora that founded the Fediverse. Back then, that was 2010.

    Wer erstellt die Instanzen?
  • @Lauchmelder

    The Fediverse explained simply
  • The genius of Fediverse. I don't even have a #lemmy or #kbin account. I use #Friendica, which has groups of its own. And I can subscribe to Lemmy or Kbin groups and communicate with them.
The Fediverse is big and powerful.
