Non-English speaking programmers, do you write your comments in your native language?
  • That's an interesting perspective. Do you think it would be better to have separate legal documentation in German, which you then can refer to in your comments?

  • I hadn't even noticed that you didn't put a space between the number and the unit. Looking it up online, the Bureau international des poids et mesures states that a space is to be used in front of all units, except for °, ' and ". Dropping the space is very common though.

  • I've actually never looked into yt-dlp's default behaviour, as I've always been happy with the video and audio quality of the downloaded video. Probing the downloaded video from the command in my comment above yields for the video Video: vp9 (Profile 0) (vp09 / 0x39307076), yuv420p(tv, bt709), 1920x1080, 3751 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 16k tbn (default), and for the audio Audio: aac (LC) (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 44100 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s (default).

  • Oak contains vanillins and wood sugars. French oak tends to taste a little bit more spiced and American oak tends to be a bit more sweet.

When making my apple mead, I always add French oak while maturing, and it makes a huge difference in taste. I add it mostly for the tannins though (the bitter part of tea), which gives it more "chew" (like the difference between white and red wine).

Ukraine's Kursk Gambit: The End of Putin, or Zelensky?
  • Russia launched a large scale invasion in a neighbouring country, making it pretty clear they are in the wrong. Furthermore, as someone who lives in a European country, I hope my country keeps supporting Ukraine. At least as European countries we need to be one block against the aggressor. As the US is an important ally with a lot of military capability, I hope they keep following us in our support for Ukraine.

    Alcohol from peppers?
  • If you're looking to make a mead from peppers, you can search online for capsicumel recipes. Here some recipes from the Modern Meadmaking Wiki: Smoked Capsicumel, Reaper and Mango Habanero.

  • I started boycotting Starbucks since the first time I tasted their coffee. Espresso isn't supposed to taste like burning tyres. I don't understand how they can charge so much for dogshit coffee.

It's not impossible to make a chain of coffee houses that serves decent coffee, Espresso House did it in Sweden.

  • I've got three accounts on different instances. When I switch accounts, it sometimes removes an account from the thingy on the left. I think it's related with the servers updating to a new version of Lemmy, but I'm not sure.

I'll preface this by saying that English is not my mother language and I'm sorry if this isn't the right community, but I didn't find a more appropriate one.

Last year I started to notice more and more people on YouTube for example using the verb "to put" without a preposition -- like "Now I put the cheese" -- which sounds very weird and kind of feels wrong to me. Is this really used in spoken English and is it grammatically correct?
