I also want to mention this happened at 2 or 3 AM EST, which only had 2 admins on, me and the hoster. I should've made a post, but given the severity, lack of info, and lack of staff members, we both decided to shut it down immediately until it was patched. I personally apologize for the downtime but I hope it's understandable why we did it this way. In case something like this happens again, I'll post it in the FMHY Divolt server.
Defederating from people who support bombing innocent people is not censorship š¤¦
Doesn't seem like it's the majority of users or people on the instance. From nbats on disc:
I just need more proof they're actually super malicious because most of the stuff linked was downvoted on exploding. in other words yeah shitheads exist there, but they don't seem to be the majority really
EDIT: after some further discussion we've decided to defederate. we'll be making a post sometime soon with a defederation policy.
If you guys can link some bad posts that are actively encouraged by the instance then I'll add it to the blocked list. (This is why it isn't blocked right now - all I've heard is that it's just right wing, which doesn't constitute a block.)
No problem :)
You're probably just on the Home page. Swipe right or press the icon with three lines on the top left.
Yeah I asked you to post what you wanted to #Requests, and since you didn't respond I figured I'd ask you here š All of the exclusive Mustard videos should be there. LMK if there's anything I'm missing.
Thank you so much :D
Those two seem pretty slow regardless, but you're right, that's not a big difference, so it could work... really, though, the main hurdle is popularity. Unless you're operating like a private tracker (which is no fun), it's going to be very hard to get both uploaders and users to it. You'll have to somehow get a lot of people interested, starting without any content (or if you're an uploader yourself, not a lot of content), not a lot of recognition, on a relatively new platform. With the added bonus of it being harder to access.
As in tor links don't show up on regular search engines (like Google, DDG, etc.) It's how most people find piracy sites.
Also, aren't downloads incredibly slow? I know regular browsing is so I'd imagine downloads would be slower.
Hey there, do you mind if you can post what else you want over in the Requests channel? I'll be happy to rip them whenever I'm free.
Thank you :)
Hi, yes, this is a very good server, no bias whatsoever š
We do Originals, Plus, and First content. Podcasts can be requested but I'll have to do those manually. Sometime soon we'll also be doing Curiosity Stream, HD nebula videos (non-exclusive content but higher bitrate than on youtube), and classes (whenever yt-dlp adds support for it.) Plus a bot to automatically do requests :)
I also have a release group there called iDoISO, where we do full ISO rips of 4K and BluRay discs and "lossless" MKVs (basically no encoding whatsoever.) We don't have a lot of releases for them right now (it's pretty pricey even for a few 4Ks) but I've put a lot of time and attention to each release, so please take a look :)
If you have any questions or feedback don't hesitate to reach out to me! (Either here, on Divolt, or over DMs!)
EDIT: oh also we have a discord server if you don't like Divolt, just know that all the links are under b64 and idoiso isn't on it.
Closest thing would be the Usenet, which is paid. (Decently cheap, but still.)
Seedboxes and DMCA ignore VPS's exist, which is how a lot of DDLs and streaming sites live. You can also encrypt it before uploading (although you'll have to decrypt it afterwards.) For archiving, Telegram has 2GB file limits but is free and unlimited total storage.
I wonder why something like that hasn't become a thing and gotten big.
Not only is tor not used by the majority of pirates, it also limits speeds by a lot. Not to mention you can't index onion links in search engines. But I mean, you wouldn't need a VPN with it, so...
If you have dev experience you can get in touch with us over on Divolt :) Otherwise the best way to improve FMHY is to help with the wiki. We have a #to-do channel on our server which is a great starting point.
As for project ideas specifically for FMHY, I don't have any rn. We have a billion backups and projects like Divolt and Lemmy are additive (and really made for the whole community rather than just FMHY.) But maybe some of the other folks here have some ideas.
What's supposed to happen is that if you're the first person to look at a certain community, it'll start fetch all of the previous posts and start indexing everything. However, since kbin is separate from lemmy and the two are only communicating via global fediverse tech, it only indexes new posts. That's just my understanding though.
You could potentially run a backup site or a different lemmy instance, but that requires people possibly knowing your real IP and port forwarding (unless you use a VPN or port tunnel), technical knowhow, and constant uptime. If you don't mind ruining the PC, you could also test software / cracks on there. (Turn off your internet if you're planning on doing this.)
Honestly, the best way you can help is contributing to the wiki and helping people out in Divolt and on here. No extra computer needed.
