  • Man fuck these losers. "Ooooo we fired hundreds of people because we had to! We're gonna focus on games!" What an excuse for the rich to keep riding the short term gains train. I don't see any accountability in this message, just pandering and excuse making like they aren't responsible for their decisions. Anyone up top taking a pay cut for their mistakes? Just making everyone else pay more and more for their greed.

  • It's weird to sit back and look at this picture and imagine you were part of a world War or one of the other global conflicts. These weapons are tools of destruction and I'm sure many people, soldiers and otherwise didn't want to kill other people if they could avoid it. Bearing these arms meant you had to commit to doing something dreadful, that'll affect you for the rest of your life.

Then these people hold these weapons with smiles on their faces like they'd be excited about ending lives. Oblivious to the notion that many people sacrificed and killed so they can pose and smile in a peaceful house, free from the possibility of harm.

    Again it's just weird.

  • I didn't mean to intend not to set up good working times with your teams. Scheduling will always be a challenge but that's something that leadership should give teams the freedom to decide what works best for them. Especially on global teams, some people would like to rotate, some would rather work on evenings for them, etc.. That's for the members to figure out. What I mean is for roles like say Social workers who do need to make in person visits, get more freedom in their working hours and not having to spend their time at a desk where there's no real value.

  • I'm pretty convinced that RTO was another way to do layoffs without severance or "bad" press. What I would like to see now are more job roles finding freedom in working times. I think many jobs have strict scheduling for a reason, but I suspect more jobs don't require you to be physically present all the time to get it done.

  • I agree, memes like this act like this isn't a reason to try. It's an illusion to think one solution solves all problems. There are several problems here and having the wealthy pay their share will be part of the solution.

  • I will also add, for those reading that Riot (Majorly owned by Tencent) is also deploying their own kernel level, always on DRM/Anti-Cheat that presents a huge privacy and security concern. This concern is amplified by their scale. I recommend uninstalling as soon as possible, and if you need to play these games, virtualize or use a computer where riot games are the only thing running.

  • Good to see someone using Linux for their platform on these handhelds. The big reason I don't want to try the Ally or whatever the others are doing is I can't imagine Windows is making the experience better.

I don't really have evidence to support that, but more Linux investment is better overall.

  • Correct, the changes to the fee structure was completely foolish and eroded trust with their customers. In attempting to speak to a wide audience, I'm trying to provide as much context to my point. That being, Unity was, and is (after walking back the changes) a good deal for 90% of the user-base.

I agree though that because of their behavior, you shouldn't risk building a business on their word, as it stands. To be fair, the EA dude is out and they're working on finding someone else to lead, if there's anyone else to lead after all the layoffs 😕

  • I haven't done the homework but this flare up on crime increase sounds like yet another excuse to be oppressive. Remember the egg shortage a little while ago? Didn't it turn out to just be price fixing?

Anyhow, I'd appreciate some good resources people have, if any, talking about this retail crime panic.
