Microsoft wins FTC fight to buy Activision Blizzard
  • I'm pretty convinced that King is a huge part of this for them. People are so focused on the console side of things because of console war nonsense.

Games that Don't Fake the Space
  • This got recommended to me the other day. Interesting, but damn was there a lot of filler in this script. I get that he's trying to get across how these spaces feel to him, but like... it's a long stairway dude.

  • Just a reminder that "Mastodon" is the software, not the specific service provider. Mastodon.sdf.org is different from, say, Mastodon.social even though they run the same software.

If you haven't already, you should contact the admin for that instance with your concerns. The contact the site lists is mastodon@mastodon.sdf.org

Has anyone here tried Bookwyrm? If not, what's your favorite GR alternative?
  • Another one for Storygraph. Really like it. I had considered checking out Bookwyrm but couldn't find an instance of it that spoke to me, and the idea of trying to export and import all of my Storygraph data wasn't appealing.

Sega calls video games that use blockchain technology 'boring'
  • Most of the supposed benefits of blockchain in gaming would either never actually be realized due to the infeasibility, or would be just as easily implemented using alternative, pre-existing methods.

Beehaw's Demographics survey of June 2023!
  • Where I am from, we don’t make these distinctions on the color of a person.

Not everybody is from wherever you're from. There's a chart up there for that, too.

Why do Mastodon posts don't get many likes?
  • Favorites (likes, stars, whatever) don't Federate, so the only favorites that your instance shows are the ones it knows about, being the favorites that are local.

When I view that same post from my instance I also see 0 favorites. But when I view it on mastodon.social there are 366.

  • Yeah looks like a lot of single-user instances have seen a similar huge surge in user accounts. Here is a link to one of the discussions on the topic: https://lemm.ee/post/177673

    Lemmy fully managed hosting
  • Are you aware that your instance is currently home to nearly 20,000 users, while still only reporting just 2 posts? From the outside looking in your instance looks like the current home of a spam bot farm waiting to happen.

Most of those users seem to have joined in the past 2 days. https://fedidb.org/network/instance/lemmy.elest.io
