I pay 12€ a month for ~60W :(
Have multiple copies of the data. Use snapshots, they don’t get encrypted by a ransomware because they are read only and can’t be accessed via samba or nfs. It’s only a problem when the attacker gets root access to your NAS. Use a cloud provider like backblaze and backup your data encrypted. If you are really scared that ransomeware data will overwrite your backups use 3-2-1 and Grandfather-father-son backup strategy. But all this comes at a cost.
It all started with a raspberry pi… i wanted to host game servers for me and my friends without having to pay for them. This expanded to plex for movies and bookstack for dnd notes. Now I have so many services that I have to look it up to give you a full list.
Wow thank you for your detailed comment. This shows me that I have to do a lot more research about proxmox.
Hello everyone,im thinking about migrating from proxmox to unraid but im not sure if this is a good idea and I need some feedback.
I currently have 1 server with consumer hardware which runs proxmox and has 4 VMs:
- TrueNAS (2\* 4tb)
- VM for docker and other services
- Game Servers running on an SSD
- Game Servers running on an M.2
Im planning on upgrading my storage to 3 \* 20TB in the near future.
My goal is it to remove complexity from my homelab and unraid has some features like mixing drive sizes and reduced power consumption. I know that the migration of all the docker containers and volumes will be a pain.
The main reason why I'm thinking about this, is that a the kernel of a friends proxmox killed itself, which was a lots of work to fix.
Would this have a performance impact? Is it possible to run docker containers on different drives?
I'd love to hear your opinions!
