Compilation using make -j freezes the system
  • Using the exact number of cores I have as the argument (from /proc/cpuinfo) makes the compilation go smooth. Are you saying that without an argument, Make uses a very high default number that causes other processes to starve ? Nevertheless, kernel shouldnt allow such a situation as far as I understrand, and perhaps should be considered a bug in the kernel ?

  • Hi, I am building the Linux kernel, with the following make command to enable multi core compilation: make -j. This ends up freezing the system and eventually some applications get killed (I am using KDE). If I pass an argument to -j, then system compiles normally. However, full multi-core compilation is enabled when no argument is specified.

I am on Debian stable, kernel 6.1.0-13-amd64. Is there a way make system do full multi-core compilation without freezing the system?

I found that TCP Fast Open was removed in Firefox, while Chrome continues to have it. Does anyone have more info on why the devs decided to axe it ?

The ticket that removed the feature didn't have any explanation: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1689604

    Hello Lemmiverse,

I'd like some suggestions for an open source software that I can use for managing some information about a community - to manage the member information and coordinate its activities.

A couple of my friends are planning to start an alumni association for our high school batch mates. I am looking for an open source software that I can use to manage contact information, events, announcements etc. Ideally I would like the following features:

    • A self serve portal - individual members should be able to update their information (contact info, location, bio, professional experience, etc) - highest priority
    • Send announcements via email
    • Track upcoming events (least priority)

I realize there might not be a single tool that can do all of these, so I'm open to multiple suggestion.

I've found Mobilizon, but it seems to lack the option where members can categorically provide additional information about themselves.
