  • Lol, this would hit better if A. It didn't start with some kind of weird name calling rather than any attempt to communicate respectfully. B. It weren't defending an objectively bad take around defining the completely relative and subjective term of "left" and "right" rather than a word like capitalism and communism and C if the liberal label were even accurate, I am a democratic socialist, it doesn't matter though, it doesn't change the validity of any part of this argument, not is it a more important fact about me than my class, the fruits of my labor, and most importantly my ernest desire to do good in my community.

  • I mean specifically this type of guy on how they are confused about how laws are enforced.

A lot of Trump supporters I think just don't really think things through critically and are mad about the economy and crime and homelessness and the drug epidemic and are swept up by the idea that someone is actually acknowledging those issues properly. Because the establishment has sure refused to actually tackle them for a long time. And Democrats can't help themselves but make themselves look even worse by constantly trying to introduce little nanny bullshit as well and they get a pretty deserved reputation as being a mixture of bought and paid for and nanny state trying to ban things and raise taxes. Republicans aren't all that popular either anymore, people want serious anti-establishment candidates and failing a real one they'll get excited about a fake one.

  • Stop. Get help. Defining things to make sure your position is the right one and the only correct position is the one that does no harm to anyone and is in no way evil or exploitive. STOP.

It is not useful, it is not constructive. While you're lecturing about who has the correct beliefs to have a place at your little left wing table, a billionaire has gotten more wealth and power. Find common ground with people who work, and who believe in working to make the world better for society. It is more important to do something beneficial than to make sure you can't be logically judged poorly.

Go help someone. Go work to improve your community. Go find common ground with the people who are doing the same.

  • They are white and conservative and have likely never known poverty, every interaction they've had with the law has been the most reasonable and generous interpretation of it. They assumed that's what Trump meant. That Trump wanted to deport the criminal element that everyone else was specifically protecting and refusing to acknowledge. They'd never seen firsthand the law applied cruelly against people they consider to be good people. They really still believed law enforcement was there to "do good" and protect "good" people, because that's most of how they've dealt with them personally.

  • I'm fine with mandatory military service for a country that treats its military in a sane way and would never deploy conscripts outside of a last resort due to existential threat to the homeland. For most countries mandatory military service is just spending a few years learning to be a guardsman and learning a trade and serving your country and community in some substantive way. It should never involve getting anywhere near combat for anyone that didn't volunteer.

In the USA? Hell to the no, even before Trump.

  • They were able to purchase guns that were extremely functionally similar to the AR-15 since the end of WW2 in the form of the M1 carbine. They were cheaply available as surplus for quite awhile. The difference between the two is mostly in weight and ability to penetrate armor and barriers effectively

  • Y'know, I've been thinking it's more than that lately. Yes, all that is true, but I think the younger generations who grew up being terminally connected to everything, always having to have a phone on them, always needing to be able to be reached by people, all their business on social media etc... I think we've developed an unspoken respect that when we contact people we let them respond on their own terms. If you text someone you are telling them, hey, I need something but, you can read this when it's convenient, and you can respond when and in the method that's convenient to you. When you call someone you are saying, I need something and I need you to deal with it right now over immediate voice chat. Yes, we can say I'm busy therefore I'll let it go to voicemail, but in this day and age of respectful texting being the norm, we often assume a call out of the blue from a known number IS something important that requires immediate attention.

  • God yes, the graphic design of the early 20th century political movements was so much better though. The three arrows is my favorite by far. Perfect strong symbolism of meaning that still works today

Works perfectly without knowing the language or the location, down with monarchs, down with fascists, down with tankies.
And perfectly designed with the intent to be used to deface swastikas.

  • Lol I meant the struggle between trans people and allies vs people who want to exterminate trans people shouldn't be made out to be a Marxist vs Capitalist struggle, because there's a lot fewer allies there and there are plenty of trans people who actually are fairly down with at least some amount of capitalism. I'm all for allies showing their allyship in any direction, but don't make trans rights seem like an issue that is synonymous with more radical movements because that is how you reduce the number of allies you're going to find.

Ie. we need to band together and save fundamental human rights and democracy first, we can hash out our differences later.

For the sake of optics, I want no confusion that for a random person who doesn't think they know any trans people, thinking trans people should be left alone and safe doesn't mean people will assume they are "radical Marxists"

  • So this is the modern antifa flag used here, it is the red socialist flag overlayed by the black anarchist flag, it is directly based on and referencing this flag
Which was the flag of the militant wing of the German Communist party.

I suppose you could say in the original post without the color it becomes more generalist in meaning but I suspect it was just for visual design and not to signal anything more anarchist and less socialist.

Regardless, trans rights should not be synonymous with antifa even if we are allies. The oligarchs are trying very hard to say that trans people are all "radical Marxists" let's not make it easy for them. We are people just like them, and it isn't Marxists vs capitalists, it is "we the people" vs "the ruling class of super rich" who want to control our lives and take our freedoms before giving up their domination and it always has been.

Tldr, that flag is antifas, antifa is much easier to villainize than "the trans population". Antifa is a political direct action group which I support and many do, but many don't, either because antifa has generally been anti-capitalist and some people really like capitalism (including many trans people) or simply because they just associate antifa with trashing downtowns and rioting and it's easy to be against those things. It's an easy target. Don't make trans people an easier target by lumping together trans rights and antifa as being just the same people.

  • I feel like the communist party optics detracts from the messaging here. Basically nobody who is sympathetic towards socialist let alone ML anti-fascist groups needs to be convinced to not be okay with discrimination against trans people. We need a true populist call to the American public that any big government that comes after trans people will eventually come for them and that we need to fight together regardless of politico-ecenomic ideology, because human rights are being violated and concentration camps are right around the corner.

This instead works as a call to antifa supporters to reinforce the us vs them where the them includes everyone who is right of smashing capitalism. And not only do trans people include lots of people who are right of fully dismantling capitalism, but potential allies definitely do.
