[Outdated, please look at pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemmy.world

An easy place to talk to others without barriers, group voice chatroom in the browser

I made this website a few years ago, it still works. if you can create a profile and leave a voice message for someone to contact you later or you can browse live rooms where people talk

  • lol i put up a post on here and people analyzing it from a "socialist perspective" the thing is i thin kits limited to certain cats [what u call communities] lemmy is like america 1790s, all kinds of people comign in here, some of the rejects from other countries, some criminals, and some opportunity seekers

  • I mean I or anyone coudl write one up easily with userscripts, but I assume you're wanting server side block, because thats just UI stuff, you may not see it but the server is still sending you their junk, which is what you want to stop. something simple like: cat_name{'nousers':list, 'keywords':[list of block keywords], 'blockalgs': [list of knownblockfilters] } and you send this to the server to fetch only the stuff you want

Lemmy probably feels like Reddit when it first started, all warm cuddly and friendly to newcomers eager to discuss and collaborate around central topics.

I joined reddit on the tailwind, so it was all echo chamber, we hate newcomers, gatekeeping, automod frenzy, too many rulebreakers, too many rules, etc I could be wrong, but thats what I imagine it used to be like.

  • People already filter out ads because they are not mixed in with the video cdns, they come from a different cdn that is easily detectable. If they inermix the ad into the video stream, there would be no difference in the BT stream. Again people are just assuming they give up regular CDN, bt is just supplemental not a replacement, that's obvious for any 100% uptime website aka server.

As far as ads go, AI is the next tech to filter them out wherever they are, within the video itself. Google does this also when it generates tags and thumbnails of women.

  • for real i thought all these linux users understood the bitorrent protocol better, especially since it has been ported to the browser now for a while. I think people misunderstood my question, but still interesting none the less. I mean in combination with their CDN, like p2p would only save them bandwidth and storage on largely viewed videos.

Why do dinosaurs have big heads and tiny arms?

    What evolutional benefit is that?

Why doesn't youtube use p2p or bittorrent?

    privacy concerns for its users?

  • I realize my question is a bad one to begin with, to answer it you have to put people in classes. I looked up the companies with the reenue in the world, facebbok or meta is not even on that list, walmart is #2. Buying groceries and stuff is more a necessity than online services entertainment or not, so that makes sense. Then, I looked up richest companies by net worth (which is made up anyways, revenue is actual amount you're getting if you take away its "worth" tomorrow) Meta still isn't the richets company in this sense, but Apple and Amazon are pretty high on the list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_companies_by_revenue https://money.usnews.com/investing/articles/most-valuable-companies-in-the-world-by-market-cap

Why is the legal system so expensive?

Specifically in the USA, but feel free to share your status quo. We live in the internet age, doesn't that cut overhead with filing and make things cheaper?
