I'm guilty of not reading the f..ing documentation

I've got to confess, I have for years been guilty if not reading the documentation. I simply go with the flow and hope it works...

But not anymore! And why the change you may ask? We'll, I'm reading the f..ing documentation on Rocky linux and I'm just blown away from the amount of great information!

If you've been guilty of not reading the documentation, let me me know what changed it for you

If you're not reading the documentation, this is your time to confess!

  • Been spending some time with podman, but ran into some issues with denied access on a bind mount. Messed around with acl for 30 minutes or so until I realized selinux is a thing.

So, now I'm learning selinux. I'm a long time ubuntu guy, but just now adding Rocky to my setup.

Immich is UP and even my wife likes it, now I'm slowly adding her 100gb library to immich. Kinda fun going through all those old pictures.

Proxmox Backup Server is DOWN. I've got a synology that boots at 11pm for my backup to use it as NFS share, but PBS won't auto mount that darn NFS. Works fine with PVE backup.

  • Had this surgery done this march for two teeth... 2 weeks on painkillers. Here in Denmark all I got was store bought painkillers... ibuprofen and paracetamol.. and a bill for 8600DKK ~1000$

    0/10 - will not recommend

  • I tend to keep my laptops on mint or ubuntu. PC's you use as a daily driver, should be easy to manage. When you boot, they just work.

Build a homelab, if you want to break stuff.

A homelab can be as small, as a vm in virtualbox. No need for extra hardware when starting off...

  • Laptop is Linux Mint, because my wife also use it and i want my laptop to be as easy to handle as possible.

Servers are Debian, because it's very light on my hardware. Mostly used for containers.

  • Microsoft forced win11 on customers... we had 100+ pc's upgrade on their own... gave f all about group policies.

Happy to not be a part of endpoint management team and to not care if my work pc is on wi10, win11 or anything else... I need a browser, an ide and a terminal to do my work

  • Welcome to !selfhosted@lemmy.world - What do you selfhost?

  • Got a proxmox node with a couple of vm's, mostly for hosting docker.

I'm considering switching proxmox for kubevirt, but I'd have to deploy all my container as either k8s deployments or create new vm for docker...

Been using prometheus at work lately and I want to create a push setup with thanos backend, but for now it's just an idea

  • Buy local goods, even is it cost more... most people will go for cheapest price, even if you're handing your money to warlords and human trafficking.. same argument every time "There will always be

    <insert sicko>

    ".

    It

  • The current danish government is a circus act.. Can't wait for the next election and hopefully get a fresh start with a government that doesn't look at people as currency and keeps increasing the government labour force, without fixing anything..

  • Switching from reddit and X to lemme and mastodon has removed all the racism and political extremists from my life. Such a joy!

Other than that, I'm on Facebook because of my sons football club has a group there and instagram to support my wife and receive the occasional meme worthy reel she sends me.

I ditched google and apple photos backup for synology years ago and am just now trying immich, which is amazing BTW.
