Seems like they are only interested in what the fediverse can do now that Threads is getting in and sticking their foot in the door. It's likely they needed Meta as a corporation to validate federation as something with real potential. We need to be highly critical about the entities who just see this as another way to make money off our data

These are beautiful plants. When you water them, how much water comes out from the bottom and how fast does it happen? Ensuring you have good drainage is key for all plants. This one is probably just in need of brighter light to keep its pretty colors. It may start to look kind of weird until next warm season. I had one and it didn't make it through the winter inside. Maybe a light will help.
I only have 1 southern facing window and I currently have my bed up against that wall. May try to rearrange that room to out my big elephant ear and alocacia there.
I keep most of my pants on a multi level shelf by a west facing window with lights. They do ok but would love to find a set up to keep them warmer and better lit.
Usually the fall is mild but we've already gotten a few nights of frost. Brought in my outside plants in a hurry but now I need to do some prep for the lower light and colder conditions.
Although I do have some plant lights and just bought some newer ones that will be here soon, I'd love to know what other folks do to prep houseplants for their indoor lives.
The were solid (not mushy), light colored, and didn't have a rot smell at all. Same with the rhizomes. The pot does have drainage, but maybe not enough. I also think the soil may have been a bit compacted and it's possible that water stayed at the surface and never moved downwards
My zz plant was doing okay. Wasn't growing as quickly as other describe despite living outside in a shady but bright part of my deck in NC USA. Should be getting plenty light and is protected from rain. Then this morning I find it like this. Each stem has a soft brown spot at the base and has fallen over. I cut them off and put them in a glass jar of water until I know what to do with the cuttings. I quickly checked the roots and everything looks and smells normal so I put it back in the soil.
The soil is a cactus mix with extra perlite added for drainage. So what could have caused this sudden change? And what is the best way to propagete zz plant cuttings? I have 4 or 5 so I think I may experiment with water propagtion and perlite propagation.

ooo, I've never used leca before. Is it hard to keep clean? I have some of my pants in water with pebbles and when I replace the water and clean it out, the smooth surface of the pebbles makes cleaning the gunk pretty easy. The rough surface of leca seems like it would be hard to clean.
Many never seem to develop strong and substantial root systems no matter how properly I water them or how much I amend the soil for what they specifically need. I have an alocacia zebrina that has only grown about 5 leaves the whole time I've had it (about a year) and I've read that it's a fast growing plant once it has enough light and soil. I guess I wanna be more confident about whether the light situation I've set up is enough, and I want to feel more confident that my plants are thirsty before I water again. My concern is whether these meters actually work or if they are a gimmick.

I've been keeping plants for about 5 years and have not bought any meters to track and test light, moisture, temp, ph, and all that. Are these a necessity? I am starting to think that I need these tools to ever get some of my pants to thrive in my dark home which gets pretty cold in the winter. What do y'all think?

I think the "someone" putting pressure on them isn't really individual people but just a general sense of class solidarity. Upper middle class and upper class people will do anything to keep their avenues of profit healthy, and their avenues are the status quo. Giving lower level workers more autonomy, flexibility, and the power to shape what the workplace looks like is NOT the status quo. Add the effect that WFH would have on the real estate market to the mix and now they REALLY aren't going to be interested. Real Estate is a huge money maker AND has strong influence in many other industries. None of this should really matter to us regular folks though. We need to stop thinking that what is good for the goose is good for the gander. If workers want to work from home, we should continue to push for it. Our metrics for what is beneficial to workplaces should be very different from theirs because their goals are very different from ours.
I am on a hybrid schedule and I love it. If they allowed it, I'd probably be at 80% remote because my job, experience, and skillset allows it. It's beneficial to me, opens up space in our building, reduces my travel cost, reduces traffic at rush hour, and I GET MORE DONE! No losers as far as I am concerned. :)
I wish people would realize that humans only got to where we are because we are a COMMUNAL species. We developed complex language and tool usage BECAUSE we work together. Being "off the grid" is usually isolationist and therefore extremely dangerous. We need community in order to develop and manage the resources we need to survive.
I think I understand why this is bad, but I am not confident in my technical understanding of the mechanics here. Will appreciate an explainer :)

I have recently tried a water cream for the first time and I really like it. It's light but does really seem to hydrate my problematic skin. For me, the value is not feeling weighed down and oily, especially with this summer being so hot. But since water creams seem to be a new product (am I wrong on this?), I am wondering if this is a fad. Should I be stocking up on my new favorite cream, or is this here to stay?
I hate that this is true, but if someone has chosen to switch and they can afford to do so, than they should. They just shouldn't think that that's where their power starts and ends. Real change doesn't come from our wallets.
CeraVe carries a moisturizing/hydrating cleanser in liquid and bar form that I think you will like. It feels creamy and doesn't dry out the skin like other cleansers.
I have sensitive inflammation-prone skin and must have a low-level degree on dermatology at this point LOL. I like using CreaVe products since they are a good price and have good simple ingredient lists. My dermatologist approves of these products too, which is nice. If you can spend a little extra, you can also try La Roche Posay's hydrating cleaser too. Very nice quality products.

How are you watering? I used to spray my tomato plants with a shower-end hose but had much better results from just sitting the hose on the soil and watering the soil. Less water is lost to evaporation and it also reduces the chance of fungus in the leaves.
Add foods for your worms to digest and produce worm castings. The worm farm game is over when problems occur e.g too wet.

Up until a few weeks ago, our spring had been pretty cool so I put off getting my okra seeds started. Then I forgot about it and now I worry that I am too late to plant some okra! I've never grown it before but I know they are sun and heat lovers. I should have enough of that, but I worry that since it can take 3 months for them to fruit I've missed out on peak growing time.
I'm still going to try, but is there anything I should do to help speed it along? I'm soaking the seeds right now. I've seen that some people scrap the outer shell with sandpaper, anyone have experience doing this? I plan to plant these in deep 5 gal buckets so I can ensure they can always be in the sunniest spot. Any other ideas?!
I love Cajun seasoning on baked sweet potatoes and on scrambled eggs but I cannot find a premade mix that isn't extremly salty. Can anyone recommend a good recipe for a Cajun seasoning mix that doesn't rely on way too much salt to be tasty?
I am planning on killing my lawn and filling the area with raised beds with gravel in between the beds. I will be using the sheet mulching strategy to kill the grass. I've used this strategy successfully to prep for my existing beds. My question is this: should I put a layer of anti weed tarp before installing the gravel, or should the sheet mulching do enough to prevent weeds?
