Wasting water with tankless heater
  • That fitting is installed between the hot and cold supply lines at a single location/fixture in the house, usually the farthest away from the heater. Then, a compatible tankless heater can use a pump to push hot water out while pulling the cold water back in through the cold supply line - so no extra recirculating pipe has to be installed. You trigger the recirculation with a switch at the fixture, on a schedule, or with an app/smart home device.

    Portafilter: bottomless or spouted?
  • Bottomless is easier to clean and lets you see more of what is happening with your shot - you can tell if your tamp/etc is even based on where the coffee first comes through. More of a mess though if you have shoot-through.

I think bottomless is also more desirable/seen as an upgrade if you ever sell the machine.

NASA mistakenly severs communication to Voyager 2 | Thankfully the probe regularly phones home to fix this sort of mess
  • By my napkin math, from 32 billion km away, a 2deg error means Voyager 2 is pointing to a spot 1.12 billion km away from Earth (at right angles). That’s roughly the distance from Earth to Saturn 😅

After not seeing a new episode of the typically weekly InsideEVs podcast on Friday, I did some digging on TwiXXer and found this: 3 of the InsideEVs hosts — Kyle Conner, Dominick Yoney, and Tom Molougney — are starting this new show. Martyn Lee, of EV News Daily, appears to be splitting off.

So why is .ml TLD going back to Mali taking everyone by surprise?
  • The even bigger/more hilarious part of this IMO is how millions of emails meant to go to the US defense department - .mil - ended up going to Mali - .ml - because of typos. The Dutch company that up til now managed .ml has been trying to get the military to respond but no luck, and I think they had to hand everything over to Mali — which is closely aligned w Russia…

Do you use tin foil when you barbeque chicken?
  • No — are you prepping your grates? Preheat, clean thoroughly with a wire brush, then dunk a crumpled up paper towel in vegetable oil, hold it with your BBQ tongs, and brush the grate.

Sticking can also be a sign that the food isn’t cooked yet, it tends to release once it is seared so don’t be afraid to leave it alone for a bit.

    Mac Lock / Sleep Settings
  • Does anyone know the opposite solution? I have a MBP that always wants to be awake - particularly bc of Google Chat notifications or if my Bluetooth mouse gets bumped — is there a setting or program that will keep it asleep unless it’s opened, or even until a key is pressed?
