Lemmy is still alpha software, thrust into the limelight by the fall of Reddit. It is still in its infancy. Reddit has had over 18 years to get it right. So it will take some time.
Prejudiced yes. Racist? No, American is not a race. And yes, I agree that to really know the USA, you need to visit many of its states, but the current state of the country doesn't invite many of them to visit.
As a Canadian, the more I read these kind of news about the USA, the sadder I become about the country and feel that these social issues will never be fixed
We can only hope. In my opinion, Montréal is the most European like big city in North America. And Quebec's unique culture isolates it from the rest of anglo-saxon North America.
But I have to say that's a plus. I'm on Lemmy.ca and beehaw.org is federated with my instance so I can interact with their communities. I have noticed that discussions on technology@beehaw.org are different from those on technology@lemmy.world. I think that's the beauty of Fediverse.
It's like being in a technology club in France and then visiting the technology club in Germany. They may look like the same clubs on the surface, but then you realize that these clubs have different interests and the discussions are different because the worldviews of the two clubs are different.
It is really unfortunate because it is a good video. Linus himself said that they had no choice but to have stupid thumbnails and titles so that the algorithm would put their videos front and centre. Youtube is to blame in this case. Linus Media Group is a business, so I understand the situation.
As for the video, it really is a good one. They compared the Mac Pro and Mac Studio to a PC using various benchmarks and concluded that the Mac Pro was just not worth it.
I have an iPhone 8 Plus and I had the same problem with the AppStore version. The latest TestFlight version is much better as they've refractored the code and they will continue to refractor the codes to make it less ram heavy.
Unlike Reddit, which is a for-profit company. Lemmy servers are set up by individuals or groups of individuals for the benefit of the community at large, and donations pay for the server costs.
And I like to think of instances as countries. Each instance has its own rules and culture, and that affects how the communities are moderated. For example, the beehaw.org instance is heavily moderated compared to lemmy.world. Continuing with our example, the Technology community on beehaw.org will be moderated differently than the Technlology community on Lemmy.world.
So each instance has its own reason for existing. Another example will be https://lemmynsfw.com/ which is an 18+ instance. Basically, when you register in an instance, you become a citizen of that country.
Your account only works on Lemmy.world. But since servers communicate with each other, you can view posts/comments on communities located on other servers and reply/post on communities located on other servers.
Go to communities -> All to look for communities and join commjnjties. And welcome to the Fediverse!
I'm pretty sure he means the cheating,
