  • I've been considering a switch since my instance has a lot of issues with overloading. I like that yours doesn't censor words. Does lemm.ee have issues with too many people joining and overloading the server?

YSK: Pixelfed replaced Instagram for me, the same way Lemmy replaced reddit.
  • Yeah I was on Kbin but got tired of the UI. Plus there are no apps for it.

What is something that people think is dangerous but in reality is completely harmless?
  • We have a similar one here in the US. People think if you go outside when it's too cold, you'll get sick.

Let's see if that gets filtered.

  • They’re pretty much baofengs with much better filtering, so you don’t get front end overloading which can be frustrating.

  • Most activity, I've seen here: !amateurradio@lemmy.ko4abp.com but there's a lemmy bug that's not showing a bunch of posts. That should be resolved soon.

  • They are fine for starting out with, but you'll probably want to upgrade soon. There are better radios for around $75 if you can afford it.

  • Ham radio! It's relaxing. My favorite activity is to take my portable gear to parks and operate Parks on the Air.

  • I was in Hiroshima and found this little Tex-Mex restaurant near the bomb dome. It was great, and I say that as someone originally from Texas. Search for it if you’re ever there.

  • The boosts segment annoys the hell out of me for some reason. I just don’t want to hear about crypto.

What song(s) do you work out to that you're pretty sure no-one else does?

I’ve been a huge fan of the movies since they first came out but didn’t read the books until the beginning of this year. I just wasn’t a reader until recently. I’ve been yearning for some more fantasy but haven’t been able to find anything similar. I tried The Silmarillion but it reads too much like a textbook to me.

What are some other great fantasy books that I might like?

I just made this post and it already showed I had two upvotes, which likely isn’t true. I’ve noticed this every time I’ve made a comment lately. Not sure if it happens with posts.

My in-laws are visiting for a week at the end of next month and they like to visit until late in the evening. However, I typically go to bed at 7 PM because I have to get up at 4 AM to train for my sport before work. I'll have just finished a competition and will be beginning training for another one when they're here.

What's the best way to set boundaries with them without coming across as an asshole? My wife will probably want to stay out later while they're here, so I'll have to figure out a way to compromise.

To make it more interesting, what are some things your in-laws do that annoy you when they visit?

My wife and I are in the mood to watch something terrible. We just watched the langoliers and hackers so something in that vein would be fun.

What are y’all’s favorite shitty movies?

Edit: I have been corrected: hackers is a great movie. I'm sorry everyone.

I'm currently struggling to find my home. I have an account here at lemmy.ml, where most of my posts are, and one at kbin.

Why do you think your instance is the place to be?

I'm about 70% through the second Jurassic Park book and it's ok. People on /r/books seemed to think it was even better than the first, but it feels like a slog compared to the first. I'm looking forward to moving on to Stephen King's The Stand.
