Stellaris announces DLC subscription
  • Works every time and after playing just about all of the modern paradox games, you really don't need the dlcs unless you're really into the base game and even then the time to learn means most of it won't even be within your grasp until you're like 50 to 100 hours in.

Trump says he’ll debate Biden as many times as necessary: ‘We have an obligation’
  • I bet one lemmy penny that he does a debate. He got out of the republican debates because he was the clear winner, but no federal election debate would show weakness and that would be bad for his brand.

I also think the debates will be an absolute disaster for all parties involved which will benefit trump as his side doesn't care what he says or does.

Your AI Girlfriend Is a Data-Harvesting Horror Show
  • People panned the game but this was the whole point of the NG Resonance character in Deus Ex Invisible War. People would basically tell this AI pop star intimate details about their lives and then the data was used against them and their local communities.

Are Google Certificates, CompTIA certs, etc. worth the money?
  • Help desk is the answer. The key is to work towards understanding the industry you're doing support in. A ton of companies love support members because they end up knowing the product, the use cases, and the clients better than most other folks in the company.

Why do I have to complete an employment assessment test if I spent tens of thousands of dollars, spent numerous hours/days of my life, and earned a four year college degree with an excellent GPA?
  • It's because degrees aren't unfortunately full proof certifications of your skill set. They should be, and they should require recertification to prove your skill set. This is handled differently in different countries and with different industries but requiring more deep and trusted educational programs would resolve the problem. It makes sense that a company wants to ensure they're getting what the candidate says they are.

Hiring processes are a joke currently and involve a clearly bullshit song and dance that everyone knows is a lie. I ver much don't like tests in this capacity but it's clear it's a symptom of issues in higher academia.

Silicon Valley Battles States Over New Online Safety Laws for Children - The New York Times
  • Many groups have wanted an "online passport" for a long time now and it's hard for me to not see this as another attempt veiled by "won't someone think of the children".

Once this starts it'll be required for everything.

Gen Z and millennial productivity is being crushed by bosses who don’t understand them, top university research says
  • No, you made a series of claims above without evidence. Let's start with your claim that instant gratification has spilled into the workplace and is a cause for the problems as you see them.

  • Disagree - there is a degree into which the needs of a managers direct report should be taken into account. Ignoring these needs in full comes with the risk of turnover and productivity loss. It's a balancing act between business and employee needs. Again you're taking it the the extreme by saying an employer should kowtow to the employee when the reality is that it should be a good balance in an ideal scenario and not entirely in either direction. A balance leads to the best outcomes for both parties.

  • Nope, this article focuses on just one side however it is and should be a two way mutually beneficial deal, like any successful relationship. Good managers understand their employees and work within business needs to make their people happy.

Analysts are calling 2023's decline in PC shipments 'unparalleled in the industry's recorded history' but suggest the only way now is up
  • I fell into this bottomless pit and don't know when I'll upgrade. My 2070 super is great but showing it's age and I've waited so long that now effectively the entire interior of my case needs to be upgraded. Just can't justify the cost right now as I know it'll amount to 1k+
