What to do with an old Nintendo Switch?
Anyone have any cool projects for an old Nintendo Switch? The thing had stopped charging, I took the back off, looked at it and noped out, put the back on and it started charging again. But now the left side isn't charging the controller. My parents got my kids a new one, so we have this old Nintendo Switch now.
Anyone do any fun/silly/nerdy things with their old switch?

I suggested I rip open numerous teddy bears, sew them all together into a teddy bear suit and have the kids walk around in it. But she said that's too creepy for some reason. :-D

Didn't even consider making one. Looking it up it definitely seems doable. I wouldn't want metal balls really, but places recommend things lime hemp for plastic beads or something. Thank you for the suggestion.

When I say quality I'm not talking about like Hollywood. I'm more trying to talk about good, fun, no misinformation, NP hate speech etc. Right now I've funded this nonprofit myself. And I have so much I can put into it. I'm just trying to give folks choice as well. I talk with a lot of people and while I've been able to recommend platforms people kind of turn off if I don't ha e a direct way to help them. And lots of folks don't want to trust some random dude, but are more open when they hear it's a real business.
As for charging for storage, I don't know if we'll do that. Right now my goal is to get people involved. Hopefully donations, or sponsorships or grants can help with that. It was one avenue of thought.
Creating a bot account - Internal Room ID and Access Token information
I don't know who might need this in the future, but I'm setting up a bot account for my BT Free space. I've never done this before and I wanted to document it a bit for myself or anyone else that is interested in the future.
Make sure you have your home server information. This is just the URL, in my case it's https://matrix.org/.
Then I needed to get the room id that I want the bot to be a part of. You can get this via the room info - Settings - Advanced - Internal Room ID.
Then I need the Access Token for the user I want to use with my bot. In this case it's my new user I just created called btfree_bot. I did this through the Element Web UI (https://app.element.io/). Click the user in the upper left - All Settings - Help & About - Advanced - Access Token.
I attempted to get the access token via curl, but it kept failing. If anyone wants to let me know what I did wrong with the curl, at least it might help someone in the future. :-)

I already have some folks interested in joining. I didn't want it to be attached to me as a personal entity, so no. I don't think it's backwards. You can't ask people to come to a restaurant that doesn't exist yet.
Maybe it is. I've never run a business. So this might all flop. But I have to try at least. I personally believe the Fediverse is the next evolution of the web. And we need to help it where ever we can.
It's just an idea at the moment. I don't know if it's feasbile, practical, or even allowed legally. Hence why I have to talk to my accountant.
But my idea is to generate income either through donations, funding drives, sponsors in the banner, etc. Or to do like a service where you can upload X amount of videos for $/month.
Then once we've hit break even, assuming we do (yes I know this is a difficult task atm), to share the additional revenue with content creators.
Why not?
I'm already an advocate of the Fediverse and as I've been talking with folks personally, they're all asking what instance they should go on. So this is a way for me to directly onboard folks to the Fediverse, should they be interested.
It's a general instance that is backed by a nonprofit corporation that is working on it's 501(c)3. So any donations can be tax deductible in the future when it's complete.
I'm just attempting to foster the Fediverse is the big reason why.
I have some thoughts on potential monetization sharing. Have to ask my accountant. We're a moderated instance looking for fun and quality content. We're currently self hosting our own PT auto-follow index and hoping to get up a moderated search index soon as well.

We have set up a moderated auto-follow index for Peertube at ptindex.btfree.org. This is just a list of Peertube instances we found to be good quality PT instances.
If you know anyone that could/should be added, please message and we'll look at the PT instance to add.
Everyone can feel free to use our PT Index if they'd prefer, instead of the public one or manually adding each instance.

With me today is Osa Atoe! Osa makes absolutely stunning midcentury nigerian pottery. I'm a bit outside of my expertise as I know absolutely nothing about pottery or art in any way, but I think her work is gorgeous and I'm honored to have her on the show. She's also been in a punk band, she was a columnist for "Maximum Rock'n'Roll" magazine and she has a degree sociology.
