Amsterdam: Speed limit will be 30 km/h on most roads from today
  • We have that in Germany, 25 for regular e-bikes. Anything above requires you to register and insure your bike, you get an actual license plate and you are considered a vehicle not meant to use regular bike lanes.

  • Lots of manufacturers stop calling that frame shape woman's bikes, but rather find terms like step through or low step and so on to be better suited. This frame design is a lot more accessible for people who aren't as mobile anymore (think old people, people with hip problems, heavy people) and are also much easier to handle with tall cargo on the back, typical example would be a child seat.

For the average person, this frame design is probably preferable as there are no benefits to the typical male frame shape.

My parents think it looks odd when a guy sits on one of these, but then my parents are in their sixties :>

  • The cargo bike boom has brought us some really decent ways to transport small children and stuff by bike, I actually think it's quite possible to use is you live in a not so small town. There are accessories to weather proof the cargo area, there are Iso-fix mounts for child seats and once the child can sit by itself it's usually quite a joy for them as well. These bikes are also protecting the child in case of a fall much better than you would think.

However I really do understand that a car is significantly more convenient. I live in rural Germany and there distances can easily amount to 10-15km one way to run errands such as going to the pediatrician. It's just a bit much, particularly with a toddler. And the car really does become storage for clothes and all that, you can just park it and everything in there is dry and safe, all that makes the car very attractive. Also a decent cargo bike with kids-friendly accessories will run you as much as a cheap small used car, although only the initial cost of course.

The key to bad weather is decent clothes, and children can easily be weather proofed for the most part. My kid is three now and I've seriously considered switching over to a bike, but only to replace the second car that I frequently use because my partner will need one to go to work anyways. But running the car cost me around 250€ every month (I keep track of every expense except cleaning) and that is only as long as nothing major breaks. Upkeep of even a large cargo bike is a fraction of that.

  • Notably the homepod mini had thread radios and could act as a thread router as one of the earliest devices out there, might be that apple is going to push harder for this and has plans for it's own thread enabled Smart Home products.

  • I think snow and ice would be better at reflecting but we seem to get rid of those ice caps.. But when the ice melts, it cools down the ocean so of course, problem solved!

  • I frequently go to the soccer subreddit in a browser because there's nothing like it out there, the speed with which people upload highlights, the match threads, the official announcements are all there if you care about high level soccer. It's the only thing I really couldn't replace

One of the claims on this Belvita packaging only appears in English
  • I know someone responsible for these labels and descriptions for a fairly large company, can absolutely confirm this will happen a lot. The product has to go out to the stores and there is just no time to get these translation anymore. I also know of products that shipped to large stores with false information on the label, knowingly because changing it would take too much time and money.

  • I'm always reminded of the YouTube channel technology connections and his famous line "but sometimes...!" It really is a non issue almost all of the time but people always act like they will spend 60 minutes at a fast charger every day.
