Ludwig II: Bavaria's 'fairytale king' and his dream castle
  • I visited this castle recently and it's pretty gorgeous - a lot smaller on the inside than you'd think, and the tour basically is designed to get you in and out as fast as possible. But the view from the back windows after the tour is complete is a stunning vista worthy of a lot of photos. The walk up to the base of the castle is very picturesque, and there's options to take a horse & carriage ride up, if you're in a rush.

If you ever visit Munich, I highly recommend visiting as a day-trip!

Babylon 5 Is a Perfect, Terrible Series
  • And the Lurkers Guide is still online! I've been doing the suggested chronological-without-spoilers first time watchthrough and have been reading the guide after every episode. You can tell a lot of the scripts were planned well in advance!

And Rigolettos moved to something like 104th street and 100th ave, and then to somewhere on Jasper Ave closer to Chinatown - did it used to be on Rice Howard?

    What the actual F**k???
  • Likewise - it's only happened a few times in my life, but there have been moments in a 2k-line long SQL stored proc I inherited that I needed to print the thing off and user markers to try group code up and figure out what was happening (it was a monstrosity with no formatting or comments lol)

But yeah day to day, even year to year nobody is printing off their code to look at it - let alone only 20 lines of it lol

ChatGPT sees its first monthly drop in traffic since launch
  • Wow that's a very protective stance to take! Good reason though. There's probably enough people out there actually copy + pasting the code that gets spit-out to have to worry about that. I try to only use ChatGPT to figure out syntax or get a high-level understanding of an approach to doing something, without having to scour the web for documentation.

  • I can see where they're coming from in terms of security, but that sounds a bit harsh.

At least where I work, we're told basically "use it if you want, just be prepared for it to be wrong and double check everything it tells you" which sounds a little more reasonable IMO

Thousands of species of animals probably have consciousness
  • This is why I've been increasingly depressed that I love meat so much. I've even started feeling bad swatting at flies. Humans are egotistical in our assumption that only our way of experiencing reality is special or meaningful. Just because what we call consciousness doesn't appear to exist in certain living beings doesn't mean they don't experience reality and memory in their own meaningful way we don't understand yet.

Imagine if we discovered blades of grass experienceed pain when cut - I've had some existential anxiety over shit like this ☠️
