  • I'm not very bilingual but I grew up with English and have spent a few months in Latin America.

I noticed that in English I now say Mexico the Spanish way when I'm with local people, but the English way when I'm visiting friends in the US. I always say it the Spanish way in Spanish, and don't think I use any regional accents.

  • Does anyone have a good breakdown of this 1.5 trillion number?

Everything I saw while searching was pretty right wing and it would be nice to have an idea if some of it is pessimistic, or even to have some of the numbers explained rather than solely demonised.

  • Bloodthirsty is an interesting term that I think is being applied a bit unreasonably here.

But with the thought experiment, locking up "primitives" has been pretty common throughout history so I'm sure you can read written reports of the groups that did the imprisoning. Most reports probably exaggerate that bloodthirsty take, but it might work as an upper bound.

Something else implied here is a bit odd to me. Humans are just one species of animal and many / most / all animal's actions calm down after being in cages for a while. Like, a caged snake doesn't suddenly become huggable but its going to stop striking at the cage and only strike at things that change in their environment that they feel threatened by.

Really though, laws being applied like this to a new culture are usually through conquering or opt in from the group (the analog I'm using here is adding a new country to the EU so pretty tame), and I'm pretty lost why you're making a post where you're judging another isolate group with dominant cultural values and suggesting enforcement based on those values as if they generalise universally

  • What if there is a popular joke that relies on bad math that happens to be your question. Then the alignment is understandable and no indication of accuracy. Why use a tool with known issues, and overhead like querying six, instead of using a decent tool like Wolfram alpha?

  • I can't be bothered justifying this too much. Canada and Australia elections completely flipped in huge swings. India, China and Russia are a lot more chummy than they have been. Whole trade routes have changed like Brasil sending soy beans to China now. US is trying to directly punish Brazil with tariffs for sentencing an (rightwing) ex-President for an attempted coup. The US is bailing out Argentina to help the rightwing Presidents economic plan succeed. NATO, and hence europe, has had effects with Trump flip flopping. It's hard to imagine Trump's flip flopping and chaos talking about things like turning Gaza into resorts didn't contribute to Israel taking stronger militant action in the middle east. USAID was dropped with projected deaths around 14 million.

True, large corporations still have large effects on legislation in most countries, and your own personal groceries / interest repayments may not have changed that much but I think that's a bit different than trying to say there was little difference globally between these two people being in power

  • I'm not from the US nor do I live there.

This is the part of your comment I was replying to:

The majority of the world is not affected by your regime

I'd argue that's pretty inaccurate for the reasons listed in my comment.

I completely appreciate that you personally don't feel it all that much. To be blunt, I doubt most US citizens do either. To be blunter, nor do many citizens in countries that are thought of as authoritarian / lacking free speech like Russia or China.

  • "Unlimited" sounds like genAI and that has some pretty questionable accuracy and correctness so I'm curious how that is being addressed. The source has people saying that previous critiques since the last time it was promoted still haven't been addressed
