What are some valid criticisms of Lemmy do you hear from people who tried out the platform?
  • At least I feel like I’m heard here. I posted comments so many times on Reddit and I rarely get any engagement. It feels like talking to yourself among an absurdly large and loud crowd.

We compared the finances of 30-year-olds now, to 30-year-olds 30 years ago
  • I never understood why people care so much about their property values. I personally think it makes me worse off when my house goes up in value. Now I have to pay more in property taxes and I can’t move because all other houses are way more expensive too.

Texas Surgeon Is Accused of Secretly Denying Liver Transplants
  • Hospital officials said they found patients had been listed as accepting only donors with ages and weights that were impossible — for instance, a 300-pound toddler — making them unable to receive any transplant.

One Scientist Neglected His Grant Reports. Now U.S. Agencies Are Withholding Grants for an Entire University.
  • I don’t even think it is the ex-PI’s fault. Once you retire, you’re done. It’s been 2 years. The university should tracking this issue and ask a current employee to address it.

Tesla scraps its plan for a $25,000 Model 2 EV
  • FSD is far from great. I’d say it’s unusable for me. On the way home the road curves slightly to the left. Pretty routine scenario. But, for whatever reason, my model 3 slams the brakes because it thinks it’s the end of the road. Extremely annoying and there’s nothing I can do about it. I drive on this road everyday. I never use FSD or the plain autopilot because of that.

Maine Took the US One Giant Step Toward More Democratic Elections
  • I don’t live in a swing state and I feel disenfranchised. My vote for president, for all intents and purposes, does not count in the current electoral college system.

I can’t wait for the compact to go into effect. Turnout in so many states would increase a lot.

However, my optimism is tampered by this supreme court.

Elon Musk’s reputation is falling — and it’s taking Tesla with it
  • Absolutely. I think a big factor in the drop of demand last quarter was the end of the full $7,500 tax credit.

Since August last year there has been this doom and gloom coverage of electric car sales in the media. That may be making potential buyers get concerned about purchasing an EV at this moment. Self fulfilling prophecy.

Elon’s behavior is definitely playing a role as well. I think that at the end of the day he is just trying to cater to conservatives to expand the consumer base. But the plan is backfiring by alienating progressives and not converting conservatives into consumers.
