lemmy now
  • Nah Lemmy is definitely worse than the majority of social media platforms rn. There’s blatant posts of the exact same thing in the exact same communities by different users hours apart with hundreds of upvotes each so I literally can’t go 3 posts in the All feed without seeing his stupid face and it’s gotten to the point where I’m just downvoting people for low effort. I don’t fucking care about some guys mug shot to need to be informed a hundred times, if you’re gonna make jokes at least put effort into it

Vesper is a visual oddity worth a viewing.
  • Visuals are interesting but tbh this movie is on a relatively short list of movies I’ve skipped through. I usually give up on movies I don’t find interesting or stay engaged, but sometimes a setting/plot is interesting enough to see to the end but overall is a very slow/dull film.

Wi-Fi sniffers strapped to drones—Mike Lindell’s odd plan to stop election fraud
  • Oh wow a DJI with a packet sniffer attached to it, something I can literally put together myself with stuff at my desk in 15 minutes. Absolute baboons, these are the type of people to try and convince you 5G gives you Covid.

The data of 760,000 Discord.io users was put up for sale on the darknet
  • They provide a functionary service for discord servers to have URL redirects pointed at themselves for invites. So less average users and more power users/ servers owners are taking the hit here.

Lahaina, Hawaii (Maui) has been completely destroyed by fires
  • I have childhood memories in this town, the tree really sticks with you, and the heritage there is/was quite notable. Very sad to see this unfold over the last few days.

[meme] Daily reminder that cars are heavy machinery
  • Last I checked cars exist with more regulations than most heavy machinery. I don’t disagree with your position but this is a poor argument.

Hackers manage to unlock Tesla software-locked features worth up to $15,000
  • Yeah anyone who’s familiar with the “software upgrade” know’s it’s just overpaying to be a beta tester for their self-driving. What’s more; people who don’t buy it still get auto-steer (lane maintain, car pacing & cruise control) which is what most would use self-driving for anyways. Aside from that, if it runs on code there will always be a way to beat it. People have been ripping .DLL files for enterprise software for decades that cost as much or more than this overpriced “feature.”

Research Firm Claims Most cars still cost more to charge than to fill up with gas
  • There’s definitely a lot of nuance involved. For instance my service provider charges more for electricity than the public charge stations do (seriously fuck PG&E and every other monopolistic service provider), so I actually save money by not charging at home. It’s still absolutely cheaper than filling up on gas though, especially when I can find a spot where I don’t have to pay (like my work.)

Aaron is no longer considered as cofounder by reddit. He fought for free speech.
  • This is true but also old news from what I remember they took him off that page a long time ago. Reddit has been heading toward it’s inevitable demise ever since Aaron passed. Glad I finally left for good.

Tesla under investigation by California attorney general over Autopilot safety, marketing
  • The technology definitely still needs to be worked on, as it is, but I trust autopilot more than I trust the average commuter I have to deal with. And I deal with a lot.

An X is kind of a sans serif German swastika
  • Do people go around looking for Swastikas in stuff? Even if I was a conspiracy theorist, an X is still an X. Especially when it’s not even a symmetrical X, you’re really pulling at strings I think.
