Movies that “go from 0-100” in the last 15 or so minutes?
  • The Sound of Music, surprisingly. The first like 90% of the movie is them singing and frolicking through fields, then it ends with them being chased by nazis. It's such a radical shift in tone.

What fruit is better than mangoes?
  • Have you ever heard of a champagne mango? My wife and I had them when we toured a farm in Hawaii where their goal wasn't actually to grow / sell fruit, but to replenish the nutrients in the soil that were wrecked by sugar cane plantations. Anyway, the guy pulls these mangoes straight off the tree and tells us they're really fibrous so you can't eat them like a regular mango, but you can mash it up in the skin then drink it like a juice box. He tossed me the one he was mashing up as a demo while explaining all this then told me to bite the top off and drink. As soon as my teeth broke the skin, juice started gushing out onto my shoes and the ground. The juice from that mango is easily like top 3 things I've ever eaten. Both the amount of flavor and the amount of juice that came from it were unbelievable.

How do you learn new tracks nowadays?
  • I have Guitar Pro 8 hooked up to Ableton Live

What do you mean by this? I use both programs but don't don't have them connected in any way so I'm curious on what I might be missing out on.

    Home team advantage
  • Could someone explain what's going on here? I know very little about Formula 1, but this popped in my 'all' feed and I'm curious to know the context.

Who's a guy from your franchise that deserves way more love than he gets?
  • Yeah, especially with the stroke. Hopefully that was a one time freak occurrence and not a recurring problem for him. To be that young and have a stroke is scary stuff.

Who's a guy from your franchise that deserves way more love than he gets?
  • This is much more on a league perspective than a team perspective, but I'd say Kris Letang for the Penguins. He's had his ups and downs, but he's been the Penguins go to D-man for like 15 years. He's rarely discussed among the best defensemen in the league. Then again, maybe that's because he shouldn't usually be in that discussion and I'm just biased as a Pens fan.

Best options for Non-Google cloud storage as of 2022?
  • One thing to keep in mind with something like Syncthing is where the physical location of the other machine(s) is. The nice thing about cloud storage is that your data is in an entirely different geographic region, so if there's a hurricane, flood, fire, etc. your data is still safe. That being said, I use Google drive at the moment so I'll also be keeping an eye on this post for alternatives.

What are some of the best purchases of your life?
  • TD11-KV for me. Had it about 7 years now. I plug it into my computer and run it through Addictive Drums. The sounds are incredible. They're so much easier to record compared to micing up acoustic drums too.

How do you get a good tone with plugins?
  • As a general suggestion, tones people (me for sure included) sculpt when playing by themselves tend to make things sound muddy when playing with other instruments due to overlapping frequencies. To combat this, dial back the highs and especially the lows. It'll sound kind of thin on its own, but that's what the other instruments are for.

A good way to figure out how to come up with your own tones is to pick a few presets in one of the Neural Archetypes that you really like and a few that you don't like. Try to find the commonalities between them. Just as examples, maybe the ones you like have a lot of gain or highs and maybe the ones you don't all have a flanger on them.

A "good" sound is entirely subjective and dependent on the genre you're playing. Can you give some examples of sounds you're trying to create?
