Yep! The only requirement is that your NVMe controller is in a separate IOMMU group than the SATA controller. But that should be the case.
I've been running Unraid on top of Proxmox for over 3 years. No problems whatsoever. I initially bought a RAID controller to directly pass the drives to the UnRAID VM. Another option is to passthrough the SATA controller of your motherboard (only possible if you don't use them on the host).
I documented the process on my blog (it's quite straightforward): https://simplyexplained.com/blog/howto-virtualize-unraid-on-proxmox-host/
I agree that kids shouldn't spend a lot of time behind screens. But I disagree with the fact that 30 mins is too much.
Our oldest son watches TV while drinking milk. That's either first thing in the morning (while still being a bit sleepy and while we get his younger brother ready) or it's just before bed (when physically exhausted from playing all day).
I see some benefits to watching movies instead of TV shows. Watching a movie for 30min at a time, trains his ability to focus for longer periods of time. A skill that I highly value in this era of TikTok and 30 second attention spans. He also learns to follow a story, to have empathy with the characters, to see situations in which he hasn't found himself in yet, and so forth...
And yes, it's also convenient for us. During those 30min we can get his brother ready and dressed, make lunch, get ready ourselves, etc.
Ultimately, it's up to each parent to decide for themselves. What is an acceptable amount of screen time, and how do you spend times away from screens. For us, that's a little bit of TV in the mornings and evenings, and no screens in between.
It depends. Children are naturally curious. I think it comes down to how you deal with that as a parent. Our son is interested in pretty much everything we do. As much as possible, we take the time to involve him. Tell him what's happening, why we're doing things a certain way, etc...
I assembled the NFC reader together with him, and he did question what it was for. Obviously he doesn't understand the technical details behind it, but he understand that the box recognizes the cards he put on top of it. That's enough for now. Maybe in the future I can dive a little bit deeper into it.
Love these ideas! Might make a V2!
The Plex deep links will automatically resume. TV shows are tricky. For that, I use the Plex integration of Home Assistant to play a random episode. It's supposed to be super powerful, but I haven't got it to work reliably yet (which is why I didn't focus on TV Shows in the blog post).

It's definitely level. Guess it's the perspective + the fact that it's a curved TV.
Yes, 30min in the mornings, 30min in the evening.
Hypothetically, how much would you pay for an NFT of someone else's kids? I might get crypto rich after all!
Go for it! If you have some experience with Home Assistant and ESPHome, then this is a simple project. I might do in the future for music as well. I love the physical aspect of browsing the cards and deciding what to watch/listen.
Thank you for the nice message! I don't have any plans to sell these though. Have enough on my hands with 2 kids ;)
You can buy pre-made readers from Adenno: https://adonno.com/tagreader/ He uses the smaller NFC reader that I want to use in the future.
Hadn't considered using NFC tags to have my kids control other things in the house. Interesting idea!
Oops, posted too quickly. Here it is: https://simplyexplained.com/blog/how-i-built-an-nfc-movie-library-for-my-kids/
Woops, yes! Link to the blog post with how-to: https://simplyexplained.com/blog/how-i-built-an-nfc-movie-library-for-my-kids/ Updated now.

Thank you! Finally managed to quit vim!
These posts are really useful to get a grasp of ActivityPub (if you have a programming background): https://rknight.me/building-an-activitypub-server/ https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2018/06/how-to-implement-a-basic-activitypub-server/
And of course the official spec (although its less useful): https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/

This user is creating lots of random communities (which are also featured on the homepage)
Edit: So far he has created over 2500 communities with random names.
Edit 2: Up to 4236 fake communities now
And a followup question: wouldn’t it be more efficient for big instances to use WebSockets to federate? Making a HTTP request for every action your users take seems unnecessarily wasteful.
I wanted to address Reddit's continued, provably false statements, as well as answer some questions from the community, and also just say...
I like to think that fries are our national pride, but foreigners call them French fries, and are confused when you explain they're actually from Belgium.
So, what is our national pride?
Not a big waffle guy myself, so I guess chocolate then?
Hi everyone,
I have a Strelitzia Nicolai which isn't doing too well. Most of the leaves are turning yellow/brown, some of them having spots. This happened last year as well. After a while, I cut them off, and they eventually regrow.
The plant is on a hydroculture with a water meter.
I don't think its due to overwatering. Once the meter indicates zero, I wait 4 days before refilling to the "optimal" level on the meter.
I also don't think it's because of a lack of sunlight. The plant stands in our "veranda" (sorry for the Dutch term, no good English term seems to exist). Plenty of sunlight. In the winter, the temperature never drops below 16. In the summer it almost never drops below 20.
The plant receives a fertilizer for hydroculture plants roughly every 6 months. Last time was about 2 months ago.
Any thoughts on what could be going on? I've had this plant for 4 years, and only been struggling with it the last 2.
Hi everyone!
I currently have a Neato D7 with a broken brush motor. It's 3 years old, so no more warranty.
Given that Neato is shutting down, I want to buy a new vacuum altogether.
Here's my wishlist:
- Home Assistant integration (duh)
- Vacuum + mopping
- Local control would be cherry on top
- LIDAR navigation (we run it mostly during the night)
- Easy to service & reliable (should be easy to service the robot and buy replacement parts)
Any suggestions / recommendations?
If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.
