Right, self-described "climate protestors" aren't necessarily helping the environment.
So you install your own server (apache or nginx or whatever) and also run your own postgresql from the same unmanaged space? And the server software serves both the php app and the database?
Thanks for answering my questions. I've always used managed hosting but it's becoming too limiting and I'm seeking to expand my options.
Do you use unmanaged hosting?
So you're running kbin.pithyphrase.net from your home pc?
I want to self host my own kbin instance. But dream host (my current host) doesn't let me do postgresql unless I get a dedicated server (very expensive). And I don't want to put it on my home machine because I want professional hosting.
So what are my other options? And what are you all doing? Are there preferred hosts?
"jarred look" lol
Why would it be an n-turn? The n shape suggests you back up before turning. The capital U asserts that you simply turn. That's how I've always done it.
Whoa, I didnt know that guy was involved with reddit. He's the anti-spez.
Are Swartz and Ohanian still around? Are they all trying to cash in?
I can understand wanting to get retirement money out of your long-term project, but we're not obliged to stick around and assist in the degradation of a once-great platform.
Did spez create reddit or did they just hire him?
It depends. If they can still be funny then go for it.
They were hilarious.
Man this defediverse stuff gets tiring
I think they're supposed to be lemmies, not rats
"These days people spend thousands of dollars to visit the sun-kissed islands of the Caribbean. But in the 1700s you could go there for free, if you were black and you didn't want to go there."

So are they going to hire people to mod all those subs?
I second this. I love the openness of the fediverse but I want robust tools to help me navigate it, including the ability to block.
Okay. I keep reading about docker. What's the difference between a docker and just installing an app on rented server space?
Does each dock (?) have its own server? (Apache or nginx or whatever?)
Does each dock host a whole site, or do you have a dock for your database and a dock for your web app?
Shitposting is what ruined reddit, which would be a great place for serious discussion if it weren't for the shitposting maniacs who just can't let good people enjoy pictures of kittens and assertions of respectable politics without lampooning them with ironic memes and foul language.
If these fledgeling platforms want to compete with reddit then I say delete this sub so we can focus on serious things like Donald Trump and superhero movies.
