Dear iPhone users:
  • the OS was not the comparison, but the hardware it runs on (just as @Freefall said) but also you seem to be wrong with your other assumption:

And both those devices are tied to a specific OS.

Which seems not to be the case as install instructions for another OS can be found here (i didn't try it though) for the mentioned device:

    https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pdx215/

lineage os still is an "android", but another vendor with clearly different approach than the original firmware and what hinders you from writing bsd drivers and compiling a bsd kernel for it instead? So i count the Xperia 1 III as NOT bound to any OS or OS vendor.

But despite the way longer possible support/security, freedom of choice and endless other possibilities that often come along with free OS choice, this pure and great advantages weren't even mentioned there, thus it wasnt an OS comparison as it also wasn't a bound-to-an-OS vs. absentness of vendor-lock-in-limitation-jungle comparison.

Looks like Ford just voted to NOT be my choice of car vendor in future.

However getting this patent could be used by Ford to prevent such systems from beeing used by all vendors, but thats veery unlikely i guess.

Happy Star Trek Day! What was your first contact?
  • First contact was on the here-named eta-carinae system, we did a holiday tour there long ago and heared about earth from a scientist that rescued a human instead of just studying and thus could not leave him there with his memories about him. the human was talking about star trek, its similarities and real differences all the time. he already spoke fluently in standard Sjesh/sound w/o any interfaces so we listened directly to his true mind. he even had a very worn out tng tshirt in his personal memory items box. i mean he really had used his memory items before! that made us curious and the rest is history. However he is now back here, as we managed to arrange his behavioral training to hide his experiences well, he passed all the tests and got his transport back, but with his biologic cells clock reset to his 20th to compensate the decades he lost out there a little bit. it is possible he could become an ambassador for earth one day, but it looks unlikely that he would want that given the circumstances here, a task he always compares with the mytholigical boulder of Sisyphus (that really never existed physically) whenever he is asked about his opportunity.

just kidding, first contact with TNG was in school, other kids talked about the first episode. i could not watch it at home and also had other problems to fix at that time so i missed a lot of the start of it :-/

however i am trying to train myself for writing in general as i have ideas for a longer story (but not within the trek universe) and as the above text came to my mind i just wrote it and hope you don't find it too misplaced here or badly written.. however any feedback is welcome.

Those eyes hold a deep regret
  • Wait… So LOTR is just a long winded remake of Smokey and the Bandit and Pippin is the Bandit.j

honestly i have no idea who a smoky should be, however i liked the movie "Bandits" back then, but i guess its likely not what you meant.

no pippin is rather just a fool who is directly driven by his curiosity and foolish but never foul ideas but that had an impact by the same luck that seems to follow pippin wherever he goes, thus he is rather the old character of the fool from tarot cards people have long forgotten (which is the only card of todays -poker,skat,etc- cardgames that somehow kept its original meaning from tarot cards: the joker who could be placed to replace every other card like the fool -high arkana- who could do anything and would just walk forwards without fearing consequences or looking back which is much of what pippin is like)

I legitimately want to run Linux as my desktop OS, please tell me how to meet my requirements.
  • i plan to get a similar setup (music on homeserver, synced to phone for offline use) but i dont need to sync playlists as i rarely use them, i have a streaming account with one(!) playlist with all the songs i remembered and wanted to listen to but didn't buy as CD back then and use the radio like streaming options a lot.

but for syncing phone with nextcloud i use FolderSync (Pro) and it works as it should. it has lots of possible sync targets and lots of options to sync one or both ways. i have folders with >8000 files that take some time to sync but it works fine in the background with no prob, i let it sync over mobile network too, cz i value a more reliable in-sync status more than bandwidth. however i didn't really try "immediate sync" for new/changed files yet as i don't see the need for this but its one of many options.

however i only use nextcloud sync in one or two-way syncs and once used sftp for a one-way sync, so i cannot judge all the other options, but if your playlists are organized in files, their two-way sync might be as easy as with the songs. i bought the pro version on their website so my license is not bound to a google account.

    Hexagons are the Bestagons
  • Triangles pull the same trick,

At least triangle is trying to be

i want to disagree. let me think how i'm going to do that...

Well, i asked Triangle, but she does not agree with what you wrote. Instead she beautifully rang the following horribility:

"A bee hive is a monarchy and the workers do as they are told. they hate hexagon, they want to do art instead, curves, geometric impressions, fractal figures and dadaismic alike shapes, but they fear punishment and so they do the hexagons they hate instead, because the monarch prefers them to do things they hate."

    Pick your seat, Lemmy
  • one question...

which of these are within the available options?

    • replacing own life vest with parachute
    • manipulating all seatbelts to get stuck
    • waiting until all have their seatbelts on
    • open en emergency exit in mid flight (or is it a boeing anyway?)
    • picking all unnumbered seats (as was the question) one by one and remove the screws holding them in place.
    • pushing the devil out of limits
    • watching all the others to follow their guide.
    • after landing guessing the discovery of having a parachute instead of a life vest was the reason for all of them to want to jump and use theirs for fun, but impossible to know why together with their seats, however they act against common sense anyway so no too big surprise there. and no need to be worried either as assuming they have parachutes. also beeing unable to do anything as the seatbelt somehow was locked and prevented leaving the seat until beeing freed by engineers after landing.

I kicked a 4yo out of a cafe for not being vegan
  • she should IMHO have to pay for the plate too. some vegans are not even vegan by choice but by allergy, and just fragments of scavengers "food" -really not easily to "completely" clean from plates- can cause very bad allergic reactions and i would expect a pure vegan (not necesarily a "vegetarian") restaurant to explicitly "throw away" (as in never use it again for guests) any plate contaminated. luckily i am not a vegan myself and vegetarian mostly by my own choice, but i know how hard allergic reactions to non"food"-contaminated-food can be.

of course a sign that "meat is not allowed to be eaten there and everything contacted with it has to be payd to buy anew by the offender as it could not be used any more by the reastaurant" should better be placed somewhere to on one hand help service personnel with such guests by clarifying things and on the other hand to give more security to those guests who are not vegan by choice.

Could you selectively breed humans to he able to breathe water ?
  • just wouldnt be worth the cost in the wild.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabantoidei

"This organ allows labyrinth fish to take in oxygen directly from the air, instead of taking it from the water in which they reside through use of gills."

"Labyrinth fish are not born with functional labyrinth organs. The development of the organ is gradual; most labyrinth fish initially breathe entirely with their gills, and develop the labyrinth organs as they grow older."

sounds like fun - when you grow older you'll be able to breathe air and leave the water boundaries for eve... ntually a short period until you need to go back and use your gills to survive.

i guess they developed it for sports ;-)

Through the Distorted Mirror: How the West Misrepresents Russia
  • i am from the west and perceive the west as an ever-ongoing aggressor and war driver full of poisonous lies and false promises even against their own people. some of those war driver regimes even have monuments that publicly show-off their inner and outer brutish lawlessness to never give back to their rightful owner a once stolen land.

i perceive countries that took land by force and did't give it back to their rightful owners for decades as invadors, no matter how much they like to see themselves as the "help" against "other" invadors. in fact just wanting to be seen as the good ones for things they do worse in other places actually makes them even worse again.

i don't see russia to 'like' to invade, in fact they have left countries before, something other invaders don't do. in fact russia sometimes even sells countries for cheap amount of money to nations that still lack civilisation and need to develop themselves to become civilised (like to actually abolishing slavery or such), i guess that selling that country to a slavery-liking nation was russia's biggest crime until today.

also if russia really 'like's to invade, they'ld already have done it way earlier in ukraine, and in general way more often, maybe as often as the us does and maybe then finding the same foul excuses like the us always does, but what i perceive instead is a LOT of propaganda in the west, so that i genuinely cannot really tell lots about russia these days but only about the crimes the regime here obviously commits inside as well as outside.

getting their asses handed to them

Are you talking about hawaii? that was not "handing" to the us, that was afaik forced by terror from the US against the hawaiian nation to surrender to the biggest threat to them and since then.

    looks like:

    • They claimed to be a trustworthy public CA (that can handle security incidents)
    • They made commitments to be included as trustworthy in common Browsers and OS'es
    • They now willfully break those commitments to rely on 2B2F only...
    • They do not even answer valid questions for month in a process that they should have already completed within 5 days as was defined in the commitments they agreed upon.

Maybe Honest Achmed's Used Cars and Certificates should show up again once more !?
