What open-source software would you like more people to know about?
  • I'm in the exact same boat. If someone figures out how to get tap-to-pay working on graphene, I'll be daily driving it so fast.

  • Hey everyone, I'm currently trying out river wm. For some reason, actions that should invoke the file picker dialog (like uploading a file to a webpage) fail to bring up the dialog and just do nothing.

I've tried this in firefox and chromium to no avail in river, though they both work as expected in other window managers (I've tested sway and labwc). Anyone run into this issue before?

What's a common occurrence in your hobby that you think shouldn't be?
  • I also feel that being into planes. Lockheed Martin and the military industrial complex can get fucked, i just like it when they fly around and do cool stuff.

  • Here's another one then: in heliboard settings, go to about, and hit "Description of hidden features." It's where I found that, plus a few more neat tricks!

What song hits you hard whenever you listen to it?
  • Bôa - Duvet (Acoustic Version), it's an alternate version of the opening song to the fantastic show Serial Experiments Lain. I don't have any particularly impactful memories associated with it, but for some reason it just gets me feelin. Night walks with this song just hit different.

  • I disagree, I've been using a pixel 6 for about 2 years with zero issues.

What Linux "Productivity" (ideally FOSS) tools do you use?
  • Honestly, I just found the android app incredibly clunky and annoying to navigate. I'm hoping it'll improve with time, because I would like to move to a FOSS solution.

  • I'm with you on obsidian. Logseq comes close, but the app falls a bit short for me as of yet.

    Google search is over
  • Oh yeah, the chatGPT text you posted is word-for-word identical to the google result. Could be any number of factors affecting the pagerank I guess.

  • I just did it. It told me there were no countries in Africa that start with K, except for Kenya, which starts with K. That obviously doesn't make any sense, and sounds suspiciously similar to a lot of chatGPT-generated content (the distinguishing factor being that it sounds confidently incorrect, and contradicts its own statements). Then it said some stuff about how fun it is to learn new things, 100% reeks of shitty AI-generated content. I can post a screenshot if you want proof.

What's a good podcast you like?
  • I'm a big fan of the following:

Maintenance Phase: discusses health/diet fads and scams

You're Wrong About: debunking the popular (but misinformed) narratives surrounding many well-known events of the past

Underunderstood: going down the rabbit hole of strange "ungoogle-able" questions (this one really fills the void Reply All left behind)

Darknet Diaries: super riveting cybersecurity (or just general security) stories

  • Skiff mail seems to be a pretty good service if you're not keen on protonmail. Privacyguides gives it a favorable review.

Is Rooting still as essential as it used to be?
  • I've been a flashaholic since the CWM days, but I haven't rooted since probably 2017 or so. Back in the day, rooting was practically necessary for a good UX, but Android's matured enough now that I haven't had the need for a few years.
